Just Returned from the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana. Any questions?

My husband and I just returned from one of the best vacations ever at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana. The beach is incredible, the food is great, and the staff goes out of their way to do everything they can to make your vacation memorable. I know I had a multitude of questions before I left, so I'd like to offer any assistance I can to anyone who might have a question about this beautiful resort.

how were the accomodations? I'm looking for a romantic atmosphere as well as a fun nightlife. My fiance and I can't decide whether we need an adult only resort or not. Any info would be great.

The accommodations were very nice, but not luxurious. There is a small living room area and a jacuzzi in the room, as well as a double sink, with a toilet and a good-sized shower off to the side. We didn't go to any shows, so I can't tell you about the night life; but we did attend the beach party. It was a lot of fun.
I don't know that I would consider the resort romantic, but it truly is beautiful. If you're looking for romance, Excellence is the place for you. It's adults only.
This was our 12th visit to the DR, and I found the Majestic to be probably about the best, after taking everything into consideration. The Palma Real is the most luxurious resort we've been to, but the beach at the Majestic far surpasses the Palma Real.
With all aspects considered, after experiencing 8 different resorts in the DR, we will be returning to the Majestic next year.

I just wanted to know which building I should book a room in. We requested oceanview. Some rooms are closer to the "action" and are noisey. We are heading there on 8/19 and are SO excited. What do you suggest

I've heard people say that they have gotten sick from the water in the DR. Did you have any problems with that? Were you able to drink tap water?

I've been to PC resorts three times, and will be heading back again in a few months.
You do NOT drink the tap water, it's fine for bathing, and even brushing teeth if you don't swallow. But they are very clear in telling visitors that it is foolish to drink the water as you are not used to it. (Same as many other places in the world).
Bottled water is available, and the ice and water served in bar and restaurant are fine.
Never had any tummy problems, as I did not drink the tap water.

I suppose it's the same as Mexico and South America. Bottled water is always best. Even better - sparkling water if you have any questions about bottles being refilled. Any time we head to one of these destinations, we take Pepto tablets with us. Chew a couple of them every morning and we've never incountered any problems. We do bring Immodium AD just in case.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

SweetD:
I'm not sure which building I was in, but it was not the building with the swim out rooms. I did e-mail Richard, the guest relations manager, at:
[email protected] one week before our arrival. I requested a third-floor room. They will respond by telling you that rooms are arranged by availability, and they will do everything they can to accommodate your request. We were lucky enough to be given the first room in from the ocean front rooms on the third floor. It was a great room. I think it was 4113, but I'm not sure.

travelenthusiast:
I've traveled to the DR many times, and I never drink the tap water. My husband drank tap water once, and wound up really sick for two days. Bottled water is available in the rooms, and they will give you as much as you'd like. We kept a bottle on the sink for brushing our teeth, and there were always several bottles in the fridge. The water at the restaurants is fine, but I cannot stress enough that you should not drink the tap water.

I am also interested in the Majestic Colonial as a possibility for next spring. It sounds like the 3rd floor is being requested, but I would also like to know which building to request for a quiet stay. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. My parents are looking for somewhere to go and I thought that the AI's there might be an easy idea for them.
