Jamaica solo female traveler

Hi I am looking to get away from it all by myself no kids or husband. I am looking for something on the beach. I only have a $1200 budget. I will be traveling at the end of October into the first week of November. I have heard the Negril has the best beaches but I am not sure if it is safe for me to go alone. My key things to do on my solo vacation are sit in the sun and relax. I do have to log into work every night so it would be best to have wifi in my room as I am online late at night.
Any suggestions... I am not stuck on Jamaica

Negril is definitely what I would recommend if you want to go to Jamaica! Personally I think it's probably safer than some other parts of the island because it's small-ish and there's always lots of tourists around. I was there solo 5 days before meeting a group of friends a couple summers ago. It was lovely. Jamaica is more 'rough & rugged' than some of the other islands. It's also very poor many places. So you do need to keep your wits about you.

My favorite solo/female destination are the beach resorts in Mexico. I like Puerto Vallarta best but you could go anywhere along the "Mayan Riviera" (the Caribbean coast of Mexico from Cancun down to Playa del Carmen) and have a wonderful trip. You get more bang for you buck money-wise in Mexico over the Caribbean islands generally speaking.

How long is your trip? And is that budget for air and hotel? You definitely might get more bang for your buck in Mexico. And while I love Negril, you need to know that wifi can be iffy at some of the smaller hotels.

Agreeing with Weadles, to answer we really need to know:
1) what the $1200 needs to cover (air/hotel/food/transpo)?
2) your departure airport?
3) length of trip?

White Sands in Negril comes in at less than $50.00 a night at that time of year. Wi-fi works great at beach front bar or next to office but can be a bit iffy in your room. Great part of the beach with beachfront bar and restaurant serving breakie and lunch. lots of great dinner options in walking distance. Safety has never been a concern but obviously there will be less tourists when you go. If you have are not a "hoidy-toidy" you will love White Sands!
