Ditto the post above. I've never been attracted to Montego Bay itself at all. I go thru the airport there, then head directly out to Negril. Gorgeous 7-mile beach, nice hotels and resorts, more laid-back friendly vibe.

Sunset Beach is a mid level AI hotel that caters to cruise ship passengers. It's best feature is the kid waterpark.
The Iberostars and Secrets resorts are much nicer.
Any reason why you are looking at Montego Bay? It's not the most popular place in Jamaica to stay. I'm rather disappointed that the Iberostar and Secret resorts built there. I suppose they were trying to get more people to stay in that area.

Like others said, Negril has the better beaches. I have stayed at the Hilton Rose Hall (Good especially if you have kids) and Grand Palladium (Not too far from Mo Bay). They were both very nice. Took day trips to Negril on both occasions. I will certainly be staying at Negril for my next vacation to Jamaica.
