Jalousie Hilton - villas with a view
We've reserved a mountain-view villa with plunge pool. Wondering, for those who've been here, if the ocean-view villa is worth the extra money? Also, can you make the upgrade with the hotel once you get there?

One other question-- are the villas one-story or two story? ( I know you don't have two floors within your villa but wondering if some units are located up and some down.)

Thanks for any info.!

Ashley,

I stayed at the Jalousie Hilton for ten days in February - we had a mountain view villa and we were very happy with it. I'm not sure how amenable the management is to upgrading people, but I'm sure that depends on how many guests they have at a given time. Personally, I felt that a mountain view villa was best for us because there's more a breeze up on the hill than closer to the water. Also, the helicopter pad is near the water-view villas, which might bother you depending on time of day. The one thing I would recommend, though, is making sure your villa is secluded (ie not right on the road that the shuttles use). Ours was down a little drive and then up a series of steps... very secluded. I don't know if I would have wanted to sit by the plunge pool in full view of the frequently-passing shuttle!

All of the villas are their own separate units, so if they have two floors, the two floors belong to the same villa. Did that make sense? I don't know if any villas have second floors, but each villa stabds alone. The Sugar Mill rooms are in a two-floor building that's more like a typical hotel, however.

Have a fantastic time! It's blissful there.

Lizzie
Ashley,
We did spend the extra money on an ocean view villa for our honeymoon. I am not sure how much it really matters as the place is wonderful... For us, it was worth it -- I love listening to the sound of the ocean ..... peaceful, romantic..... aaaaaahhhhh.

Have a WONDERFUL time and go to the spa while you are there! I loved it!!

I stayed in Jalousie for my honeymoon in Feb, 2001. This is the greatest resort. I stayed in an ocean view villa high up in the mountain. So many, but not all ocean view villas are near the helicopter pad. Being high up in the mountina, I did not hear the ocean; I prefer the seclusion and privacy. Do not stay near the helicopter pad or the main road where the helicopter pad is; the villas are not that secluded in that area.

Is the oceanview worth extra money? Probably not, it was nice seeing the ocean and incredible sunsets from my villa. But if the ocean view were not there then I would have been looking at the most lush and incredibale mountain (Piton) you could ever imagine. So the mountain view is still incredible. The previous comment was correct that you should stay as far away from the main roads as possible for ultimate seclusion and privacy.

I probably should add that the helicopter pad on the beach was not in use when I was there last May... they were using one in another location up past the Spa area. Perhaps it is in use now it seems.... We were not high up in the mountains, but were closer to the ocean - but not near the main road either. Had plenty of privacy. It was heavenly.

ENJOY!!
You might have your travel agent send the HIlton a VIP letter on your behalfe telling them you are a honeymoon couple and asking them to upgrade you if possible.

I was on St. Lucia on my honeymoon last summer and went to the Hilton severl times and it is very lovely! When we were there the helicopter (sp) pad was higher up by the spa.
