I'm trying to plan a honeymoon and St. Kitts seems to have everything I want to do but we are concerned about the beaches and the water being as beautiful as all the pictures of the other Caribbean islands. We both really want to see the clear water and white sandy beaches but want the seclusion and activities of St Kitts. Any advice from someone who's been there or suggestions for other islands would be greatly appreciated!

We wwere there on our honeymoon in October 1997. If you stay on the southern part of St Kitts the beaches are white sand and the water (both Atlantic and Caribbean were clear. If you stay on the nothern part of the Island, the beaches are black volcanic sand. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. It does not offer as wide a variety of activities as some of the more touristy islands, however there is plenty to do and see. I would recommed that you take a tour of the rain forest. Request a tour from someone from the horticultural society if possible. The day trips for snorkling were also much fun. I would also recommend dinner at the Rawlins Plantation (northern end of the Island. The food was outstanding. This is where we stayed. If you have other questions email me and I will try to answer
It will 10 years this April, since we were on St. Kitts and Nevis. We have many fond memories and hope it hasn't changed too much. We chose this island because of it's beauty and beaches. We stayed at Frigate Bay and the beach was clean and wonderful...the view from our balcony was great---both the golf course, the Atlantic and the Carib. oceans---who could ask for anything more. The pool was wonderful and the staff outdid themselves. If "The Front Porch or Porch" is still there, you must try it for a wonderful dinner, as go down to the dock and have a lobster dinner with steel band and beers and some locals---it was a fun night. We went to St. Kitts several years ago and stayed at the all inclusive Jack Tarr Village (formerly the Royale St. Kitts). We chose this resort because it was reasonably priced and golf was included; my husband is an avid golfer. This resort is not right not the ocean. It is a comfortable walk to the Atlantic side, but the surf was too rough for swimming. The beach on the Caribbean side is also a nice walk but a bit longer; there are always shuttles if you don't care to walk. The beach on that side wasn't beautiful but I think they have fixed it up since we were there. The snorkeling is quite good there, but for real good snorkeling you might want to seek out another place. You will also need water shoes to swim there.
St. Kitts is a beautiful island with many hills, and lush vegetation. Watch for the monkies and the gorgeous rainbows. Have fun.!!!
Was just there in November. Hit pretty hard by the hurricane. White sand beaches were now mixed with dark volcanic sand. Beautiful island though. People were pretty friendly. Scuba was not up to par due to storm. Monkeys all over the island .
