health care on provo
How is the health care on provo? My father is travelling there and is worried. Is there an emergency room with updated X-ray/ultrasound equipment? Or do you have to be shipped out to Grand Turk or the Bahamas? Thanks for helping me quell his fears. nancy

After an accident on a cruise ship when I remembered my orthopedics phone # and made a call...I can now say I would highly recommend that he besides have travel insurance carry his M.D.s phone numbers. It can be typed with small print and carried in his wallet. The local M.D. can also consult with his physician if necessary..also if he has a cardiac condition I've seen recommended he carry a copy of his last EKG. just to allay his fears.

can't help with ER but I found the medical treatment excellent. Parrotmom is correct that most cardiologists want you to travel with a copy of the latest EKG whch is especially important if there is a history of heart disease but suspect that's not the problem as the inquiry is x-ray or ultrasound. Carry the med records with you. Would think that evacuation would be to MIA rather than GB for extensive emergency treatment once a patient is stabilized.

There are at least 2 doctors on Provo. Medical evacuation if required would probably be to Miami (Several years ago there was a very serious car accident on the island and the most severely injured were evacuated to Miami.) I believe that at least one of the Drs has xray and ultra sound equipment. There is a full service hospital on Grand Turk. The standard of health care would be equivalent of that in Great Britain.

Being evacuated to Miami would not be my first choice, but this is all on the thoughts isn't it that "what if" isn't it..But as long as their are phones and medical consultations can be done that way or by internet....what's the problem.. We are both seniors and travel as much as we can and don't worry about a darn thing..
