FDR w/ Infant

Looking at FDR with 10 mo. old. We understand the + and - or AI, as we have done both AI and non AI - BUT mom and dad need a getaway and they have help for infants - which we have had a great deal of trouble finding elsewhere.
Anyone been there and any advice before we book over the next day or so? PLEASE!?!

Been there 4 times with our now 9yr old. It's clean, well run and VERY friendly. The rooms are big but not fancy. If you go get a room in building number 8. They are very close to the sea. The nannys are wonderful. Your child wont remember a thing but you and or spouse will be able to relax. We've actually gone off property several times while our child stayed back and had fun.

FYI however....if your child is only 10 months, he or she will really be limited as to what they can do. He or she will be held by the nanny much of the time while you have your fun. Honestly you could do this same thing at almost any more upscale resort in Jamaica, as they will all make a nanny available if you are up to paying for it. (Half Moon or Ritz Carlton for example) I only suggest this if you are up for paying more $$ for a more upscale vacation. Short of that, as I said.... we love FDR. Have fun whatever you do. (Runaway Bay area is nice though)

thanks for your reply. We are really booking this cuz mom and dad need R&R, so we realize there is not much for her to do. However as long as she is in her stoller walking she is happy - so that is good enough for us!

Then you'll be very happy at FDR. Have you ever been to the North coast of Jamaica? If not and you're up to an excursion or two...even just for a drink at a local spot...let me know and I can give you some names and places.
If however you're only going for a couple of days, you'd do just fine to hang out at FDR.

Runaway Bay is located about 90min from Montego Bay and 30 min from Ocho Rios.
It's much more quiet than either of those two towns as it is also more of an area than a town. About 1/2 way between RAB and Ocho is St. Anns's Bay. This town really is a working class Jamaican town complete with bank, hospital, police station and a market.

The town itself is not pretty but it does give you a true look at a village. We've enjoyed walking the main street and even visiting the market. (it's a real eye opener) If nothing else it's worth a quick buzz through in a car just to peak.

Also located in St. Ann's Bay are two of our favorite places to hang out. First is Jus Cheers. This is a bar/jerk stand run by Wade Jackson and his able assistant. Sometime on the weekends it can get pretty busy at night. We usually go there in the early afternoon for drinks and jerk. Its VERY casual, friendly and "local"

Another of our favorites is actually just before you reach Cheers on the main road. It's on the sea and has a great view. It's called "The Mug" and is also very casual. The food is again
local and it is one of our favorite places to go. "Dawn" is usually there to wait on you. She's great.

If you like to adventure, there are a few things I'd suggest.

1. Cranbrook Flower Forrest. - A beautiful walk back to the head of the river where you can
swim in a REALLY cool natural pool. (wear good tennis shoes as the walk takes and hour and
can be a bit tricky. hire a guide)

2. If you like to horseback ride, take the 2 hr mountain ride at Chukka Cove. You must make
reservations in advance .(do the morning ride)

3. Lunch at the Lobster Bowl in Rio Bueno is a favorite of ours.

4. Climbing the falls at Dunns River is nice. Dont go on a cruise ship day and be sure to hire
a guide.

6. You can easily to the public beach from FDR. We do it all the time. Just walk out the gate
at FDR and onto Breezes beach. (all beaches in Jamaica are public so they cannot tell you
not to) Yes you have to walk past the nude beach but no big deal. Anyway...walk through
Breezes and onto the public beach. There you can walk for a good 1/2 hour and then turn
around. There are some vendors on the beach that will sell you ANYTHING. They're
harmless. Just say "no" and keep walking. It's a pretty walk.

7. One night we did take the late-night trip to the new Margaritaville in Ocho. It's a good deal
and they treat you great. We however are not really nightowls and it's kinda late.

You can easily hire a driver at the desk at FDR. They are all nice and we've always found fair and safe. They'll wait for you whereever you go. (as well they should)

That's it for now... just let me know if you have any questions.

PS... I was in RAB 4 times last year.
2 of them with our child. We've never had any safety problems at all. Just use your common sense and be sure to
talk to the Jamaicans. By and large they are VERY friendly people and just want to be treated with respect.
