Eden Rock Hotel?
Has anyone been to the Eden Rock Hotel? I wanted some real feedback on it. I am also open to other special spots for a birthday week on St. Barts. Something lively...not very secluded.
All suggestions welcome.
Thank you.

Haven't stayed as we prefer a little more private,(it's not very) but have spoken with others who have, and we've dined at the beautiful restaurant & Tapas bar there. GORGEOUS views (great people watching too) of St.Jean Bay and beaches. Very good service. Sounds like an excellent choice for your birthday or "anniversaire", but do bring your gold card, especially for the restaurant up top.

Don't kick St. Jean beach sand on us Don but:
We stayed recently @ VSJ and would not reccomend it. Comparing the two is like a Cadillac and a Chevy. We found it noisy above and below, a very hard walk to the beach, the restaurant sub-standard and overpriced, the staff uncaring (other than the Owner) AND an annoying 10% "service fee" at the end which was not fully explained in advance. On the plane back we spoke to another couple who honeymooned there and took issue with the Owner's at the end for what they felt were overcharges. However, I know they do have some loyal repeat Guests like the previous poster...

Everyone is different, I was not comparing the two, but we have been there about 5 times and never a problem, I did not mention the restaurant because we only ate there once and were not happy with it, we stayed in the upper section of the last cottage up the hill each time and had a simply wonderful time, the pool was very nice and always empty, we never had a billing problem as our bookings always include a Suzuki, taxes and service fees included, and the money we saved staying here compared to much higher priced resorts gave us oppurtunity to eat at many fine restaurants. We also walked up and down the hill to the beach many times and we are not youngsters 45 to 50 years old. The cottage had all we needed as we really only stayed there to sleep, and get cleaned up after the beach. We found everyone on the island very friendly including the staff at VSG and very helpful, maybe we just didn't expect as much from people as others do. If the place was good enough for a chef like Mr Craig Claiborne it was good enough for us!villagestjeanhotel.com is their website

My husband and I stayed at Eden Rock 2 years ago and loved it. In fact, we are considering a November trip to St. Barts and are not even thinking of staying anywhere else. The service was wonderful and personal, the food great and the location exactly what we were looking for. Like you, we don't like too much seclusion so St. Jean Beach was the best choice for us and Eden Rock the clear winner for accommodations.
If you have specific questions you should post again and I'll try to answer. I don't think you will be disappointed with Eden Rock.
