best AI in DR for solo traveler?

I'm looking to book an AI in the DR and am wondering which one people would recommend for a solo traveler? I'm not looking necessarily for a singles scene, just a resort where I wouldn't feel totally out of place. I'm late 20's and have travelled solo before to Jamaica last year and enjoyed it. Thanks!

I'm going to suggest you take a look at resorts on the north coast (around Puerto Plata). That area tends to draw a younger demographic (particularly in Cabarete) than some of the AI resorts in Punta Cana do, and there is nightlife outside of the resorts.

I'd suggest you stick with an adults-only resort if possible (Excellence Resorts are one all-adult company, but there are others). But either way, this doesn't sound very appealing to me. However, the Riu resorts in Punta Cana have a large, popular disco, so those should be among the ones you consider. Riu Palace is the nicest, but it draws an older crowd.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm trying to visit new places before I revisit old ones, so that's why I'm considering DR. As a solo female traveler I'm a bit wary of leaving resorts at night, it's not like here in NYC where I feel in my element (plus to be totally honest, local attitudes toward solo females are pretty diff. in Carribean at least IME). And DR seems like a pretty resort focused vacation to me, which I'm totally fine with, I love fruity drinks and reading a good book on the beach or I wouldn't be considering it. But, it'd also be nice to have people to talk with and hang with in the evenings.

Why I don't like Punta Cana (I have never been there) is this... it is a 'built environment'. Like Cancun in Mexico it is a series of resorts that were built from nothing for tourists. There's no town, no culture, nada of interest (from my perspective).

If I were going to the DR again, I'd return to either Sosua or Puerto Plata. But I wouldn't probably pick them for a solo trip.

You could go to Jamaica but stay in a different place. Surely you didn't seen the entire island on only one visit. I like Negril.

As a solo female traveler I always have good vacations in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and also enjoyed Cabo San Lucas. I'd like to visit Playa del Carmen on the other coast. In PV I stay at a regular hotel and am very comfortable going out on my own, day or night. No need to feel tied to a resort property.

Hawaii is another safe and easy tropical island destination as a single woman.

Oops backing up, what I started out to say... if what you want is just a beachy vacation to stay only at a resort and relax, then Punta Cana might work OK for you.

I have stayed in Gran Ventana in Puerto Plata and loved it! It has a great vibe and very friendly people. They have plenty of activities to choose from (kayaks, snorkeling, sailing and you can even take scuba lessons). They have bars and restaurants at the resort and around( the town has plenty to choose from). I had a blast, you should look into it!

Plus Puerto Plata is actually a town/city. So there are things to do besides just what a single resort has to offer.
