Bermuda in March

Seeing as though it's been a warm winter on the East Coast, can anyone predict the weather in Bermuda in early March? It's 73 degrees there today.

Thinking about a possible long weekend there, what is there to do besides lie on the beach? Any thoughts on Grotto Resort?

Honestly even the best meteorologist has trouble predicting the weather for next week. How do you expect anyone on this forum to predict what the weather will be like in Bermuda in early March?

Also, today's temperature bares no relation to what it might be in March. As an example, yesterday where I live it was 82 F. and right now it's only 56 F and predicted to drop into the low 40's by tomorrow morning.

You can check historical weather statistics for Bermuda at either www.weatherbase.com or www.wunderground.com

That's about the best anyone can tell you about the weather.

http://www.weather.bm is a site maintained by the Bermuda weather service and gives historical data.

In my personal experience Bermuda in March is not great, rain, wind, and chilly. Definitely not beach weather. Of course as Roams points out, it could be gorgeous, but I'd say odds are against it. Bermuda's high season and best weather is from mid April through mid October.

Grotto Bay is near the airport. It is within walking distance of teh Swizzle Inn and Bailey's Ice Cream. For St. George or Hamilton you will need transportation.

Bermuda in March? Well, I don't know but I am going to Bermuda this Friday! For two weeks and I've been keeping my eye on the weather and my sister lives there and she said it has been unusally warm.

I was there at Christmas and was able to swim!

This time my husband is going with me and he is determinded to swim in the ocean. And he will!

I hope you have a great time if you decide to go!

bhonoreh, I hope you and your husband have a wonderful trip. I know the last few months have been hard for you. Please post a trip report for those of us needing a Bermuda fix!

what were the air temps like around christmas time?

how's transportation between the Grotto and St. George's? is it just a bus? is there a free shuttle from the resort? if it is a bus, is it an easy/quick transport?

I was in Bermuda about a week before bhonoreh and the air temps were in the seventies. I never even needed a jacket except when I was out on my moped. I also went swimming at the beach. You can click on my screen name and find my trip report if you would like to know more about the visit.

The Bermuda bus system is excellent and very reliable. Another option is mopeds. I use them, but they are dangerous.

I love Bermuda in December. Fewer crowds, a great holiday atmosphere, and better rates!

cmcfong, Thank you for your well wishes.

We are looking forward to a great vacation and visit with my sister and brother in law.

We are staying at the St. George's Club...my sister treats herself for her birthday. So the first week it will be the four of us. And the second week just the two of us, as my sister will be back at work and back at home (we can see her house from the club).

My only concerns (and they are big) are my brother keeping an eye on my mother while we are gone (he just doesn't do as good a job as me)and my FIL is in the hospital currently. So keep your fingers and toes crossed for us that all will go well on the home front while we are gone.

I have never written a trip report? I think I will journal each night about our day so I can re-read it when we get home for.... maybe a report?????

Would it be possible to do the Crystal Caves in early March? Not sure what it's like and if warm weather is better for that.

Any ideas on what one could do in the event of non-swimming weather and/or rain would be great. Thanks.

I will see if I can find the post on top ten things to do in Bermuda. It may give you some ideas. Certainly walking the Railway Trail and visiting the old forts are options. The caves will be fine.
Have a great trip!
You, too, bhonoreh. This time we want a trip report.

byeee!!!

Be back in two weeks.

Cmcfong, did you see my comment about never writing a trip report before?

I may give it a try this time though.

Am headed to Boston in about an hour to spend the night and will be in Bermuda by noon tomorrow!!!!

to those of you who know bermuda very well - what are the things you would suggest we see/do while in Bermuda?

we'll only be there for 3 nights, but more like 2 and a half days (arrive at noon, depart at noon). i hope the $450 for flight+hotel is worth it.

please suggest things that we shouldn't miss during our short stay. walking/exploring around st. george and hamilton are obvious things for us to do.

A friend and I are making our first trip to Bermuda in March, staying at the Royal Palms. We like doing lots of walking. In anticipation of any rainy weather we are bringing gortex shoes, water-proof windbreakers etc. (We both live close to beaches at home, so don't mind skipping ocean swims because of cool weather.) We hope that by being prepared we can get out and enjoy beautiful Bermuda in spite of any bad weather that comes our way. We plan to hike some along the railway trail. Any other suggestions for scenic walks or hikes? We don't mind if they are a bit out of the way. Thanks for any suggestions, will post a trip report when I get home.

The Railway Trail will give you some marvelous walking/viewing opportunities. Definitely walk up to the forts around Bermuda. Fort Hamilton will be a fairly short walk from the Royal Palms. There are also free walks which would give you a chance to get some great local suggestions. For more information on how to join in the weekly walks, contact:

Have a wonderful time. I look forward to your report!
