Bermuda

Hi, I would like to take my mother to Bermuda to celebrate her 50th birthday in April. I know weather is iffy, but with Zika on the rise everywhere, I am very limited to semi warm weather. It is just the two of us, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on hotels/ locations. I'd love to be on a beach, but may need a backup if weather isn't cooperating. Food, access to restaurants/ amenities, etc. are highly valued.

Many thanks for your input!

What type of budget (give actual dollar range) do you have for accommodations?

The Reefs Club is a very nice place to stay. The Reefs is a smaller hotel/resort and has great food and accommodations and is beachfront. If you want a large hotel, the Fairmont Southampton is nice.

I think I just read on the internet that there is no ZIKA in Bermuda. Please checto Bermuda 10 times since 1979 and I always stay at the Southampton Fairmont Princess.. Great beach, rooms, restuarants. Everything is right there but also easy to take lovely walks, pickup buses or cabs or a rental scooter to tour the rest of the island. This resort occupies the entire width of the island in Southampton parish. On the south side is the fabulous beach club, right next to Horseshoe Bay. On the north side, they run a fun boat shuttle to Hamilton. Once in Hamilton hop onto a local commuter boat and just stay on for a great ride around the island on the water.

We've been to Bermuda several times in mid to late April. While it may not be the most ideal month, it's still quite lovely and I still swim in the ocean (though Bermudians don't typically enter the water until Bermuda Day which is towards the end of May). Transportation is quite easy using the pink busses and the ferries around the sound. We love Cambridge Beaches on the West End. Has wonderful old Bermudian charm, but still up to date amenities and opens up to a nice beach on Somerset Long Bay. Should warn you that Bermuda is hosting the America's Cup this year and starting in April, hotel prices are going to be double, and then triple in price the closer it gets to the final weeks. People start traveling in for early races. I know of several smaller establishments that are booked solid. Good luck and have a grand time. And don't forget to greet everyone with "good morning," "good afternoon," and "good evening."

Mandy518,

The America's Cup races run from May 26 to June 27th.

As you are on "shoulder season" I would also consider the Hamilton Princess.

You could have a water view / harbor front room, all the amenities of being in town and use of their shuttle to their private beach if the weather cooperates for a beach day. You would be a very short walk from the main ferry terminal & bus terminal so you could easily see the island if it is not a beach day.

We have been to the island 25 or 26 times and I think for an April visit I might prefer Hamilton.
