Bequia or St. Lucia---HELP?

Which is has the best snorkeling and food?

Also, what is the best way to get to Bequia from ATL?

You're asking about two totally different island experiences and without knowing more about what you like, it's hard to say. It's also an unusual question. The most common way to get to Bequia is through Barbados, then you can take a flight directly to Bequia or you can get to St. Vincent and take a ferry. St. Lucia has larger resorts and many vacation air/hotel/all inclusive packages.

Bequia would definitely have more access to better snorkelling (although there are a couple of good snorkelling spots in St. Lucia, the water clarity is not as sharp as in the Grenadines.

Have you been to the Caribbean before? What kind of traveler are you? Do you like to get out and explore? Do you like full-service resort or small inns? And what to consider to be good food?

St. Lucia is a large island, hard to get around, whereas Bequia is small and easy to get around.

From Bequia you can take day sails to other Grenadine islands and the Tobago Cays -- if you are serious about good snorkelling that's a great place.

Are you looking for upscale accommodations? St. Lucia has a wide range from simple to ultra fancy.

Bequia is definitely less pricey for accommodation. However, getting there may cost more.

So figure out a little more about what you want and come back with some more specific questions.

Robrook, we have been to the Caribbean quite a bit---Cayman, St. Croix/St John/St. Martin etc. I have enjoyed all of them and the ease of getting around and stopping at beach bars. But now I am having an internal strife as to do I want the real jungle, lush experiencen in St. Lucia (Jalousie) or pay extra and go to Bequia. We will have children with us 7 and 9. I am leaning toward St. Lucia, but know it has limitations--water clarity, driving is hard etc.

We want really good food--grilled fish is good to me, a decent beach, good light hikes, some souvenir shopping for the children and enough to do for 2 weeks. Which do you like for that based on what I have said? Thanks.

if you have children, then St. Lucia might be better. The Hilton is a nice resort and geared for families. Two weeks is long though so you might want to consider a resort in the North near Castries or Rodney Bay where things are closer together, driving is much much better.

Thanks IslandGrl. No good deals for me in North. Hilton is running a deal where 3 of the 14 nights are free plus a $200 food credit. Might just go for it. Bequia can wait until my children have their sea legs and we can bare boat or something and really enjoy the Grenadines. The thing is I know I'll have a good time ANYWHERE in the Caribbean with the exception of only a few islands.
