Barbuda - The Beach House

The Diva is considering a late summer fling to the Beach House in Barbuda. Has anyone been there lately?

Diva's biggest questions surround the rooms both from a location/view/privacy perspective and an overall quality perspective. The resort is very clear on its site that is not "5 star" - which makes Diva nervous that it is not as nice as she is hoping.

Yes we have been to The Beach House twice, the last time in Feb. We do like it but it's not for everyone. There isn't a lot to do except jell. The rooms are nice but not plush. The bed in the middle of the room is awesome. Like sleeping on a cloud. Rest of the room is rather stark with a couch, coffe table, desk with lamp. The other lighting is track lighting with small intensity lights. There is an espresso machine in each room. The restaurant is quite good but there are really no other restaurants to go to on Barbuda. Staff is wonderful. No spa but one is in the plans. No entertainment but there is a pool table and TV room. Perfect place for a honeymoon or just to get away from it all and chill out. My understanding is that they were going to shut down a couple of months this summer for renovation. Think the Diva would be disappointed. You might look at The Palms or Somerset on Provo Turks and Caicos if you haven't been there

HowardC - thanks for the information. The Diva has been to Parrot Cay, Cap Juluca, PSV, Kamalame Cay, Peter Island, IDF/Eden Rock among others and really enjoys the private beaches where she can be left to do whatever she wants without being bothered by others. The Diva has read that the water is rough at the Beach House and is not readily swimmable - do you have any experience/views with it? Also - how is the privacy in the rooms - they seem to be all linked together with just a curtain between? Finally -- is there really no fitness area or place to work out - nothing?

Yes there is really no fitness area or place to work out currently. Assume it will be part of the spa. About the only thing to do is run or walk on the beach. Didn't find the water that rough to swim in and there is a nice pool. Re privacy--ON each deck there are solid walls that go about a third of the way out with two lounges and a table and chairs from there on out there are white fabric curtains which is sort of nice, Didn't have any privacy problems. Reading where you have been though I think you would be disappointed with Beach House now. I would wait till after they renovate.

Just got an e-mail flyer and you might consider this place--Cayo Esparanto which is off Belize. They are currently building Casa Ventanas which is an over the water bungalow like in the Polynesian islands. Scheduled to be complete 1 Sept. The place really looks nice and they have a nice 5 day package just made for a Diva. Check out www.aprivateisland.com or call 1-888-666-4282. Might even go myself

Blamona/HowardC - Thanks for all the information and suggestions. The Diva was all set to give it a try but now is seriously spooked. Diva has heard this promise of a spa and renovations for the past 3 years and they never seem to come. Hmmmmm.

Diva has looked at Cayo in the past but saw bad information on the water around the resort that it had a lot of coral, seagrass, and other sea objects that required you to wear things on your feet -- not the Diva's idea of fun.

So the Diva will continue to research and ponder....privacy, bdo's, spas, nice long beaches, etc, etc, -- its a tough life.

Diva-
I remember some of the places you've been too-but can't remember if you have been to Harbor Island, Bahamas-

I stayed at Pink Sands Resort, very nice. Pink Sands Beach is your kind of beach!

Of course, if you can afford it, Musha Cay would be the ultimate Diva destination.

I have not stayed in Cayo Espanto, it's actually on my dream list though. I did "boat" by it, and you are correct, there is grasses in the water. The water is pretty, but the beaches are probably not "diva" standards.

Refresh my memory-have you been to Jumby Bay in Antigua? I'm sure you've been to Anguilla.

Would you consider a Four Seasons? While a notch lower than say, PArrot Cay, still nice. The one in Exumas is nice. Next to it, a little more private and upscale, is Grand Isle. Beautiful properties, nice long stand of beach. Only thing, you have to cross a golf hole to get to beach from Grand Isle (It still faces the beach, the hole is on the ocean.) Exumas has Diva worthy beaches.

You should see what they are doing to Dellis Cay in T&C (next to Parrot Cay)--I definately see that place in your future......
