Barbados best snorkelling
I will be in Barbados in mid June with my 12 year old son
We are staying on Gibbs beach on the west coast
I'm wondering were the best snorkelling is ? As well, what about swimming with turtles ?Any organized 1/2 day or full day snorkelling trips recommended ?
Any other suggestions for things to do with a 12 year old ?
Thanks so much

i've not had the pleasure of visiting barbados yet; but another fodorite, lois swanson, has been 25+ times. she has compiled a wonderful source of all barbados info: http://www.barbadostips.com/Barbados_Tips/Welcome.html

Cool Runnings http://www.coolrunningsbarbados.com/ have a great day trip that includes lunch and two or three snorkelling stops and a swim with the turtles. They don't overcrowd their boats and the staff and food were both great. Or you could just do your own thing at the Folkstone Marine park http://www.best-barbados-beaches.com...e-reserve.html
However, the sail up the west coast is lovely and a nice way to spend half a day.

We really enjoyed a half day trip with Calabaza in May 2009. The boat takes a maximum of twelve people so it wasn't crowded at all and the crew was wonderful. The boat made three stops: first to swim with the turtles, second to snorkel at a shipwreck, and then at a private beach for an amazing lunch. It was one of the highlights of our trip and we will definitely do it again on a return trip.

The crew on our boat referred to the beach we stopped at as a "private beach". It was my understanding that it was a beach on property that is privately owned and that the owner had given permission to Calabaza to use the beach as one of its stops.
