I'm considering Barbados for our 10th anniversary at the end of April 99...any comments/suggestions. Thinking West or South coast...want intimate, good deal for 5 days/4 nights. <BR> <BR>Also considering Antigua or St. Lucia....no Bermuda---been there, done that, as well as St. Kitts/Nevis for our honeymoon. <BR> <BR>We don't snorkle--just beach and fine dining!! <BR> <BR>Thanks in advance. <BR>

Hi Susanne- <BR>Barbados, in my opinion, is an excellent choice, and you can get excellent deals in the end of April - the prices drop 4/15. Obviously you've done some research, but the west and south coasts are very different. On the west coast you will find more expensive hotels, but beaches that are calm and really beautiful. The area is generally more quiet as well. The south coast has a bit more activity, somewhat cheaper hotels, and beaches with a bit more wave action. It's also a little bit breezier on the south coast beaches. <BR> <BR>If you think you will enjoy the south coast, try Bougainvillea. They offer some good package deals and are one of the newest hotels on the south coast. Beautiful place. On the west coast there is a lot to choose from. One of the smaller, more intimate places you might try is Inn on the Beach. Some of the larger, but really lovely properties are Tamarind Cove, Treasure Beach, Glitter Bay, Royal Pavillion, Discovery Bay, Colony Club, Cobblers Cove... I could go on and on. Try these two websites for photos and information on these resorts: www.barbados.org and www.funbarbados.com. You might do well to call American Airlines (or Air Jamaica if you're so inclined) and ask if they have any air/land packages for that time period. You might get very lucky - it's often the time of year that they offer them for. Let me know if you have any questions.

As a native Barbadian I can hardly tell you about hotels and restaurants, I can however say to you that it is a must over all other carribean islands. (No, I do not work for the tourisism authority). If you are going around April there is a fairly new festival called the Congo Line which should provide you with lots to see, do and eat. You should be able to get information from the Barbados Consulate in New York. If you need other info try www.funbarbados.com it is a good place to start. Once you get there do not miss Harrison's cave or the Harbor Master Cruise. You may even be able to catch a cricket game at the famous Kensington Oval. Also visit Oistins Fishing Village on the south coast for open air eating or Baxters road(do be careful here as it has the best fish on the Island and it can be addictive.) We spent our honeymoon in Barbados 2-1/2 years ago (end of April, beg. of May). Weather was great. We stayed at the Coral Reef Club. What we liked about it was the bungalows were duplexes where the only common wall was along the bathroom/closet. Each room had a private patio that opened to a small garden. Breakfast can be delivered to your patio every morning and its simply beautiful. It wasn't too crowded so you have plenty of privacy. Good food, plus a arrangement where you can dine one night at another hotel if you are on the meal plan (including Sandy Lane, a great resort but way out of my price range).

Hi! Have been to Barbados every year for the past five. Love it there and always have a wonderful time. Stay at Divi Southwinds. Beautiful resort--bought the timeshare a few years back. It's located on the St. Lawrence Gap, which is a small street that separates the older part of the resort from the newer (one purchased the other). The gap has lots of small shops, restaurants, nightclubs all within easy walking distance. Highly recommend a catamaran day trip--Irish Mist was a favorite.
