Anguilla Advice

My wife and I are going to Cuisinart in 4 weeks. I would appreciate restaurant recommendations in all price ranges. Also, are there any day/half day excursions worth doing? Finally, what beaches are worth visiting?

Excursions would be to Scilly Cay (a small island right off the coast with wonderful food & live music) & a sail on the Chocolat catamaran -- either for snorkeling or the sunset cruise. There are nearly 80 restaurants & they definitely range in price. Mango's, Hibernia, Altamer, Cove Castle, Koal Keel, Trattoria are among the best of the high end restaurants. Tasty's, E's Oven, Cedar Grove, Flavours, the Overlook, Palm Grove & Zara's are excellent mid-range. Many of the beach bars also have very good food: Johnno's, Roy's, Smokey's, Gwen's, to name a few.

There are also 33 gorgeous beaches. Rendezvous (where you're staying), Meads Bay & Shoal Bay East are among the best but there are lovely little places to find when you're just exploring the island. Look at http://beaches.ai or www.anguillaguide.com to get a feel for the diversity of the beaches. We've been going there since the mid-90's and are still awed by the blinding white sand & turquoise waters. You'll love it!

Book a trip with Capt. Rawlins on Chocolat to Prickly Pear, go to Scilly Cay for lunch, get Calvin to take you to Little Bay to snorkel, spend the day at Upper Shoal Bay (rum punches at Uncle Ernie's) and go snorkeling and have lunch at Junk's Hole Bay. Also, try to catch the Happy Hits, either at Scilly Cay or the Pumphouse. There are so many great restaurants. Upper end (very expensive) are Blanchard's and Malliouhana. Expensive and excellent are Oliver's, Mangoes, Trattoria Tramonto (lobster ravioli to die for), Straw Hat, Hibernia. Cheaper places said to be good are Tasty's and E's Oven. You can also get a good, inexpensive lunch at some of the beach bars: Uncle Ernie's, Johnno's, Gwen's. Pumphouse has good pizza. You'll love it!

There are the wonderful beaches on Anguilla. We love Sandy Hill Cove for snorkeling. We take our rental car from one end of the island to the other to visit beaches and stop depending on which way the wind is blowing. Katouche is beautiful as is Little Bay (wonderful for snorkeling). Long Bay is wonderful on a calm day. We appreciate walking on the windy wave driven beach at the far end of the island overlooking Scrub Island, I believe it's Captain's Bay. We travel all over the Carib. and we love Anguilla's beaches the best for variety and tranquility. Enjoy all of them!!

I am making plans for my 14th trip to Anguilla, and am taking a friend who will be a Newbie, so I'm trying to think of all the "Must-do's". For resturants, the three I always try to go to are Blanchards, Scilly Cay for lunch and Mangos. The three biggest beaches are Rendez Vous Bay, where you're staying, Shoal Bay East (considered one of the top 10 beaches in the world), and Mead's Bay. I also like to book a half day for snorkling on Gotcha or No Fear. When at Cuisinart, tho, you may want to book on No Fear, since Trevor handles much of their business. You can have a boat driver take you to the outer cays for snorkling, including Prickly Pear, Dog Island, Sandy Island, or wherever your curiosity takes you. Little Bay is a must-do for a first trip. The boat driver can plan the perfect trip. The concierge at Cuisinart can make any arrangements for you.
