A beach hotel in Cozumel for the day?
Could someone recommend a nice Hotel on the beach in Cozumel to spend the day? I have friends that will be taking 2 elderly parents on a cruise ship and they would like to disembark and spend the day at a hotel or resort. They would, of course, pay a daily beach/fee. They plan to catch a Taxi.
Thanking you in advance.

If the elderly parents are not that old and can get around a little, I would suggust renting a car and driving a couple miles past the Fiesta Americana where they will find a nice beach with a restaurant and bar (it would be on the right, a couple miles down a road til you get to the water). You don't have to pay a fee...it is open to the public. It is a very relaxing place! I wish I could remember the name....Playa "something"...but I know that Playa is beach...so that doesn't help much.....

Thank you so much for your reply.
I checked the internet and found The Presidente Hotel. One parent will be in a wheel chair, but that's no reason to have to stay on the ship while everyone else goes ashore!!!
Thanks again.....I think this family will enjoy every minute of Cozumel! The Hotel looks very luxurious and fun!

I am sure you will find someplace to go, but I just wanted to mention that the Presidente does not allow non- guests to use the facilities of the hotel - even for a fee.
(You can certainly check to see if this has changed, but we have gone there every year for the last ten years, and that has always been their policy.)
If they still do not allow it, there are - as the other poster mentioned - many very nice public beaches with facilities and good places to sit and eat with even pools and chairs with umbrellas where you can go that are free or at minimal charge.
These are on past the hotel zone and accessible by car/taxi.
Another good choice would be Chankanaab Park where there is great snorkeling, good food, lockers, showers and chairs with shade palapas. I think there is a charge for the lockers and an admission fee, but it is no more than $10 to get in, and it's very nice.

I would second the vote for Chankanaab park - it is only about an $8 cab ride from the cruise ship docks and entrance fee is reasonable. Rental snorkel gear was pretty good and only $2.50 - There just aren't many beaches in Cozumel and many of the hotels don't actually sit on the beach.
Chankanaab would have all the amenities, plus there is a little paved tour to look at a few old relics.

You can also discuss your choices with the tour desk on the cruise ship. We have used hotels for a day on the beach from several cruises that we took. The cruise ship folks always know who will let you in and who won't.
For the record, the last time that we stayed at the Presidente ( 2 years ago) there were cruise ship passengers using the hotel beach...go figure...they probably gave some one a tip!
