Seeking recommendations for Vancouver hotel & activity for one afternoon.
My wife and I and our granddaughter (age 10) will arrive in Vancouver BC about noon the day before we get on a cruise ship to Alaska. We would like a "nice" (wife's terms) hotel for the night, hopefully, not too far from the cruise docks, so not too much hassle to get to the boat the next morning. Oh, yeah, and maybe a "nice" restaurant in the area.
I am unfamiliar with the layout of Vancouver hotels and cruise dock location.
Not sure about activity in Vancouver for the afternoon. I know about Stanley Park, but don't really want to rent a car and not sure how that could be visited in the short time we'll have.
Any comments would be appreciated.

We did the www.vancouvertrolley.com It takes you to over 30 tourist points and picks up at several of the hotels... the best thing is that you can hop off and spend as much time as you wish at each point or continue on.... the drivers are very good at background and history so you get a great overview of the city... I believe they have senior and student discounts as well as a discount for prebooking...

For our lodging, we just bid on a hotel site and got the Coast Coal Harbour hotel for $75/ night... it was great for the price...

The Blue Horizon Hotel on Robson Street
The rooms are very large, its a nice hotel, family friendly, and has great views from the upper floors. there is a pool too. Its easy to get to the piers by cab and you can take a bus or a 20 minute walk to stanley park.
for a a ten year old a trip to the aquarium would be fun.. its nice for adults too.
There are lots of restaurants on Robson too.

You can also rent bicycles and roller blades on Denman nearby Stanley Park. Take in the miniature train ride, the totem poles, and if it is hot.the little water park (no rides, just a variety of fun sprinklers) etc.

The Westin Bayshore is a beautiful hotel right on the water...you can see the cruise ships from the hotel and there are restaurants within walking distance...we stayed there last year before getting on our Alaska cruise

This is a suggestion bordering on the absurd, but, with a 10yo granddaughter, and when you're in Canada for a short time (IF, that is, you are NOT residents OF Canada)... be sure to take her to a candy counter to see the giant assortment of unique and <b><i>different</i></b> candy bars. It probably sounds dumb to you, but to a kid it might be fascinating. (plus you can find it anywhere - you just have to <b>do</b> it)
