Rental car issues on Vancouver Island

We are renting a car in Victoria and driving out to Tofino for a couple days relaxation. I thought I could just drop the car in Nanaimo and take the ferry over to Vancouver, but our car rental company says we have to return the car to the original rental location in Victoria. Any ideas on how to improve the overall plan while still having a car in Tofino and still going to Vancouver by ferry (rather than by plane)? Thanks.

Drop the car in Victoria and get the Pacific Coach bus to Vancouver. http://www.pacificcoach.com/

Usually you are able to drop off at another location for a fee. Check other car rental agents. Or take bus to Nanaimo, rent car in Nanaimo and drop off in nanaimo

We spent 11 days on Vancouver Island last year, it was awesome. Don't miss the Goat on the roof restaurant and try their pancakes!

I think you should have to change your car rental agent.or you can drop your plan of hiring the car and take bus to Nanaimo.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I was planning to check other car rental companies, but presumed all would have the same policy. I was wrong; the second company I checked allowed me to drop the car in Nanaimo near the ferry, so we are fine. Thanks again for your help.

We were planning on doing the same thing. Let me know what rental car agency to stay away from! How long are you planning on staying in Tofino? Did you find a good accommodation? I am still researching the options.

Hi charli47,
Hope your plans have worked out. National let us drop; Hertz did not.
