Niagara Falls - Help me Choose a Hotel
Why oh why do I read hotel reviews? Every time I pick a hotel I then read that the hotel is dated, not worth it, etc. I realize that you need take these things with a grain of salt, but I don’t want to screw up the reservation.
Special trip coming up for 1 night in Niagara Falls. Choosing between Marriott Fallsview, Embassy Suites, and the Sheraton on the Falls. Fallsview Casino is not available. It’s a running joke in our family that my husband has been all over the world but not to Niagara Falls so a falls view room is a must. I would also like a nice room, nothing dated, worn, musty, or tired.
If you had to pick one of the 3 above hotels, what would be your choice? Thanks in advance!

I loved staying at the Marriott Fallsview. I want to stay at the Fallsview Casino this time but one week I checked the price and then the next week I checked it said sold out for that date, they must sell out a lot! A random Thursday in Sept too. I might change the day we go though so I can stay there. Anyway the Marriott is great though, I just want to stay at the Casino once. We parked at the casino when we stayed at the Marriott since the parking was free at the Casino with the players card, whereas the Marriott wanted $20 a night I think.

Marriott Fallsview is a relatively new hotel that is next door to the Casino... ask for a Fallsview room not too high up ( the hotel is on a 150 cliff above the Falls so the higher rooms are too far up)...
resist the urge to choose Embassy Suites... same views, however it is overrun with families and crowds...
the Sheraton is closer to the tacky tourist area of Clifton Hill... worthy of a look, but not a great location...

Perfect! These are just the sort of things I wanted to know. I will book the Marriott this afternoon. Amelie di dyou eat at the Terrapin? One of the packages includes a restaurant credit, but if it is going to over the top expensive (even after the credit) we won't do the package. Oh, and the dates I tried to book at the Casino were mid-week too!
Thanks for the tips Gary, I did not know that about Embassy Suites - ugh - not what we had in mind. You saved us from making a mistake!

Terrapin Point is a medium rated tourist restaurant.. not my style...
If you want an much better dining experience, consider a short 20 minute drive up to Niagara on the Lake... I can give you choices in many price ranges... stay away from the immediate tourist Falls Dining unless you must...

Thanks Gary, that's kind of what I expected, we'll skip that package. After reading a bit on this forum and trip advisor I didn't think we would be eating in falls area - the options sounded pretty bad! Certainly open to any suggestions you might have, we are not "foodies" but don't like tacky chain restaurants. Something casual, open to all types of food except Japanese and Mexican. Perhaps a price range of $15-$22 per entree?

the winery restaurants are pricey, so I would suggest riding up into Niagara on the Lake... there's The Harp (Irish Pub), the Angel Inn (a genuine 1700's English Pub), the epicurean (healthier home made),also the Niagara on the Lake Golf Club (the oldest golf club in North America)... if its nice out, consider the patio at the Queen's Landing...
also on Hwy 55 just outside of the village is the Old Winery Restaurant for wood oven pizza and modern Italian...
Those are all around your price range... if you need more....

Gary that is great, thank you! I usually do a lot of research before we travel but this trip came up fast and at a busy time so I'm not able to dig in as usual. The restaurant list is perfect, thanks for the choices.
PS - Marriott Fallsviews is reserved

No, we didn't eat at anything in the Marriott. The restaurants in Niagara Falls are all overpriced, but we've eaten at places at the Fallsview Casino. garyt22 always has good advice. We liked The Harp over the Angel Inn in Niagara on the Lake, but there are tons of great restaurants in Niagara on the Lake.
We are going again next month and I think I want to try the Old Winery Restaurant this time and also the winery in my "Sunday lunch" recent post that was named one of the best winery restaurants in the world. Oh and I found a french restaurant in Niagara Falls that does crepes, but I don't know much about it (anyone?).

We were in Niagara Falls in July for one night & we ate at the Syndicate Restaurant in Niagara Falls. (I think Gary recommended it.) We really enjoyed our meal there. The food was very good & reasonable & they have outside dining. We had a 3-course special for only $20 each. Next door is an Italian restaurant where a band was playing outside, so we had the added pleasure of listening to some great music, too.

Thanks for all the restaurant info!
I see there is a charge for parking at Marriott, and I have read there is parking at the casino if you get the Players Card and use it. My question is just how much do you have to use it to park free of charge? Not trying to be cheap, but I would rather spend the $ on food, shopping or doing something!

it seems to change all of the time... originally just having a card got you free parking... too many people took advantage so they switched to card plus any use... then $10 of play...
It may be $20 by now... but at least you have a chance of winning it back....

Are you sure gary? We were just there last month and the signs just say free parking with the card. We did play a little bit, BUT, they switched the garage around so now you have to pay to park by the elevators. We weren't sure if we had played enough for the free parking so we weren't sure if we should pay at the elevators or risk trying the machine at the exit gate for the players card (only place to use the players card). We got the free parking in the end with the card. I think it's just if you have one, not if you played or not. Margo you could always ask when you get the free Players Card. I am 90% positive that it's automatic free parking though. We did park at the casino when we stayed at the Marriott, and we always park at the casino when visiting from anywhere else.
