Taking the New England cruise late Sept. 2008 aboard the Holland America leaving from Montreal to Boston. Will arrive in Montreal one day before the cruise. Need help on where to stay and what to see. Thanks. (Would also appreciate other info from people who may have taken this cruise.)

Of all the cruising we have done all over the world the Canada/New England still ranks as my favourite. We did the itinerary as a 10 day in and out of Boston. I will do some research on the tours we did as I arranged a couple of them privately beforehand and get back to you. The one thing we did was stopover in Montreal on the way and I booked a hotel on Priceline. Got a great deal there so try that and a must is to do the city Greyline tour. My husband is from Montreal and he really enjoyed doing it as well as it has been some years since he was there. If you just have one day it is an excellent way to see the hilights and you can always go back to something you want to see more of.

jernigan - I found the literature on the tour we took in Bar Harbor which I am sure will be on your itinerary. I booked this company on the Internet and was so glad I did. It was the same tour that the ship sold for almost twice the price and people were lining up to get tickets. It is an excellent tour and you get it just a block from the ship's dock

Hi jernigan,

If you only have one day in Montreal prior to boarding then I agree that an organized tour of the city might be a good idea. While it is not my favourite thing to do to see Montreal, it does cover a lot of ground and will allow you to see a good chunk.

If you choose to go the independent route you should head to Old Montreal to look around and do the "core" area on St Catherine St. (Crescent, Peel, Stanley, Montagne streets) that area is fun as well.
