My husband and I are planning a 10 day trip to Canada in August. We are going to be camping at the Lake Louise campground for 4 nights and staying at the Whistler Pinnacle Hotel for 4 nights. That leaves us with 2 nights in between our 2 destinations. Any suggestions on where we should stay? I was kind of assuming that we'd spend a night in Kamloops since it seems to be between our 2 destinations, but I'm open. I'm also not sure if Kamloops warrants a 2 night stay. That would give us one full day there.

I would probably go to the Okanagan and stay somewhere like the Sandy Beach Resort in Naramata.

I agree with April. Kamloops is nothing special and I certainly wouldn't spend two nights there. Take the route through Vernon and Kelowna. If you want to camp there are are lots of nice campgrounds in that area http://www.camping.bc.ca/Thompson_Ok..._listings.aspx
as well as nice resorts etc. I wouldn't do the Naramata suggestion as you probably would want to take the Coquihalla connector 97C to Merritt and then on to Vancouver, Whistler. You pick that highway up just south of Kelowna.

April and traveller69 assume that you will be going to Whistler via Vancouver, in which case an overnight in the Okanagan would be a good suggestion.

However, you might also consider getting to Whistler via Kamloops, Cache Creek, Lilooet and Pemberton. Once you leave Cache Creek, the roads are not as good as the Trans-Canada or Coquihalla, but the scenery is quite remarkable. In addition, you won't have to put up with all the traffic getting through Vancouver and environs.

If you do go this way, I'd plan to stop either in Salmon Arm or Sicamous on Shuswap Lake, or head straight through Kamloops and stay in Lilooet. My preference would be the Shuswap Lake.

No, it was just what I might do since I couldn't think of anywhere fabulous to stay for two nights on the more direct route. With that much time, I might veer off the main route for a scenic tour through the Douglas Lake Ranch, but that would take you down by Merritt.

Thanks for all of the info. I looked up the Sandy Beach Resort and thought it looked great. I actually changed things around so we're now spending 3 nights there at the beginning of our trip and are just going to have 1 long day of driving to get from Lake Louise to Whistler.

Naramata is out of the way, but there are wineries on the road between there and Penticton where you can stop for lunch.

Some things to do...
Summerland: If you like syrups and jams, check out Summerland Sweets. Take a steam train trip.

Penticton: Visit the S.S. Sicamous.

I recommend to take the icefield parkway and travel at day one from Lake Louise towards Jasper, at day 2 from Jasper towards Clearwater(Wells Gray PP corridor). You can reach Whistler at day 3 in the late afternoon, if you do not start to late in Clearwater.
