Fundy Natl. Park/ accomodations
Can anyone help me with the best place to stay while exploring Fundy Natl. Park and Hopewell Rocks area in Sept.? Husband and I will be in the area for 2 nights.Only place we see that looks convenient is the Fundy Park Chalets in Alma..Sounds OK but are there any alternatives in the approximate area? Not familiar with any of N.B. so any help would be appreciated.

We were at Hopewell Rocks last September(we stayed in campground) after nine days in Nova Scotia. I'm looking at the Fundy Coastal Drive brochure - here are the motels/hotels listed for the area.
Alma:
Alpine Motor Inn 506-887-2052
Bayview Motel, Chalets & RV Park 506-887-2103
Fundy Highlands Inn & Chalets 506-887-2930 (looks like it's within Fundy Nat'l Park)
Parkland Village Inn 506-887-2313
Hopewell Cape:
Hopewell Rocks Motel & Country Inn 506-734-2975
We had to choose between exploring Hopewell Rocks and Fundy Nat'l Park before a long drive home. We chose the rocks and really enjoyed the area. Arrived late afternoon and saw the rocks and bay at high tide, then went back at 9 a.m. the next morning at low tide to walk on the ocean floor for a couple of hours (one price for both days). By the way, we had excellent dinner at The Old Shepody Mill restaurant a short drive from where we were staying.
There are a number of Bed & Breakfasts/Inns also listed. I can give you those names and numbers if you'd like.

Tiny suggestion:
Get TIDE TABLES well in advance and strategize so that you can be at Hopewell Cape BOTH at absolute low tide and again, 6 hours later, at absolute high tide.
The contrasts are stunning, and you need not be there for consecutive highs and lows, just see BOTH during the time that you're in the area.

agree with above. get the tide charts. i'd try to see the high tide first and then the low tide. when you pay for your ticket, it is good for 24 hours so you can go back the next day. make sure when you go back for low tide that you hit it early so you have time to explore the sea floor.
i thought fundy national park was really beautiful too. i just drove through and regret that i didn't have more time to explore.
can't comment on accommodations - i camped around shediac.

ShutRbug: Great list. Am looking into some of those. Can anyone tell me where I get the Tide Tables? Can I do that now for Sept.?
Also, has anyone ever stayed or know anything about The Captains Inn in Alma?

We stayed at the Captain's Inn in 2001 - don't know if anyone has more recent info. It was fine (clean, reasonable breakfast etc.). It is right on the "main road" of Alma (not really a big problem since Alma is so small!)and is pretty much right at the gates to the park. Definitely wins for convenience. It had a bit less personality than some of the b&bs we stayed in, but we would stay again (no complaints at all).
