Well, I've been saying for some time now that I'd like to go to Halifax; found a fantastic book &quot;Walking Historic Halifax&quot; which really put the last nail in the coffin that I would finally go. I've booked my sleeping-car tickets on VIA Rail's Ocean (which I look forward to in itself!).<BR><BR>Anyhow, so I'm going in mid-May, spending 4 days in Halifax at an inn in the center of the city. I have only two questions left, as I've got a basic plan what I will do more or less rain-or-shine (Point Pleasant Park, York Redoubt, Historic Properties, Pier, etc...). I have no doubt that the time will fly! So, here's my questions: 1) Where can I purchase tickets for the buses? Are there any special deals (10 tickets as a discounted price, etc.)? 2) Someone told me that Halifax is not as renowned as other places in the Maritimes for seafood (I still think it would be a whole lot fresher than here in Montreal!). I'm curious if you Haligonians dispute this assertion and if so, where would you recommend going for quality seafood (I'd pay up to $20-$30 for good fish plate, excluding wine)? 3) If we get a nice day, I thought it would be fun to rent a bike...even just if we only bike around Point Pleasant Park a bit. Any idea where to rent one and/or favorite bike trails? Nothing fancy needed, just two wheels will suffice for us.<BR><BR>Cheers and thanks in advance.<BR><BR>DAN

Bus tickets can be purchased by twenties - $30 bucks. If not it is $1.65/person one way on the Metro Transit. Easy to move around the city. You can rent bikes down at Historic Properties but not sure if they are open in May? York Redoubt is a little ways outside of the city but you can take the bus to Purcells Cove. I think it might just turn around at that spot. You really should take a side trip to Peggy's Cove.<BR><BR>As for fresh seafood, heck we have some of the best right here in Halifax. For a good meal at a cheaper price, try the food court (upscale) at the Historic Properties. John's Seafoods does a great lobster with all the trimmings. There is also Salty's on the waterfront and the waterfront warehouse (more expensive). As well McElvie's.<BR><BR>

I lived in Halifax for 4 years &amp; still visit there several times a year, and I can honestly say I've pretty much eaten my way through Halifax. I'd have to disagree with the assertion that there are no decent seafood restaurants in the city.<BR><BR>Salty's and McKelvie's are both great, as well as the Upper Deck and 5 Fishermen which are both upscale. Tanya also mentions the Waterfront Warehouse - I only ate there once, and was not impressed; but it was shortly after they opened, so that may have been partly to blame.<BR><BR>Enjoy Halifax! Its my favourite city in Canada.<BR><BR>Tim

Thanks for the great suggestions; Tanya, it was in part your enthusiasm in a previous query that got my tail into gear to put this trip together! I've checked out that the York Redoubt is apparently accessible on the Purcell's Cove bus. Peggy's Cove we might consider but would have to take some sort of tour bus for that, as neither of us drive. <BR><BR>Tim, Tanya, thanks for both of your advice. Don't forget to grab a snack of home cut fries at the chip truck in front of the library on Spring Garden Road. Some of the best!
