Calgary to Vancouver by car
Thinking of travelling by road Calgary to Vancouver Aug 09. Plan a possible stay for 2 or 3 nights at a place Beaverfoot Lodge near Golden BC. Would like ideas of what to see around Golden & other places to stay after leaving Golden [3 days/nights before arriving in Vancouver]. Prefer B&Bs lodges or similar.
Seems major car rental firms don't like one-way car hire in Canada as their prices are ridiculous. Found Tiger Car Rental the best with only $200CAD extra on top of rental fee.
Any other options?

Try googling up the Golden tourism site for more info on that area. Golden is usually used as a gateway to the Rocky Mountain national parks - Banff and Yoho. Mt. Revelstoke National Park is also nearby, between Revelstoke and Golden.
For B&B info, the biggest directory of them in Canada is www.bbcanada.com .
Car rental prices are based on supply and demand. August is peak season. Have you checked prices going in the other direction ? (assuming you haven't booked flights and could do it from Vancouver to Calgary)

Thanks for info on car rental krp329 . Seems Avis is more reasonable doing it in reverse Vancouver to Calgary. Only booked flight to Vancouver so it will work for us in reverse.
I will plan rest of trip from here. Lots to choose from on www.bbcanada.com which is great.
Cheers from Australia

In Golden, take the gondola at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. There are fantastic views at the top--also hiking and bike trails. The Eagle's Eye restaurant at the summit is first class.
You could also go white-water rafting on the Kicking Horse River. There are several companies offering half and full day trips at varying levels of difficulty. There are also boat tours on the Columbia River from Golden.
Of course, Yoho and Banff NPs offer all sorts of activities. In Yoho, don't miss Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls.

Thanks for you input laverendrye. Sounds like 3 nights is not enough in this area with so much to do & see. Like to keep it relaxed but still take in as much as possible. I will check out the places you mentioned. Thanks
