What do you consider expensive? I think I paid $800 to Philly then took the Amtrack into New York which was about another $90. I don't know how this compares to your prices.

Have you checked out flying from Great Falls Montana instead of Calgary? It isn't that far of a drive, about five hours. And it may be cheaper to fly from within the states.

On www.travelocity.com, the fares average about $250 US from Great Falls to NYC.

I actually just checked Travelocity.com for yyc to nyc with flexible dates and it is even cheaper than from Great Falls. On Delta, only $202/USD.

Hope this helps and good luck.

As with any airfare, it can be considerably cheaper going during the week than on weekends. It is also way cheaper if you go a "roundabout" way rather than direct. Go to Air Canada's website, and try plugging in different departure and return days on thier "fare finder". You may be surprised what a difference a day makes.

I live in NYC and drove to Regina, SK in November. 4 days, 3 nights. It could have been more efficient but my brother-in-law insisted on driving the entire trip (about 7 hours a day). Long, detailed story, won't bore everyone. Traveled with my dog, therefore stayed at Holiday Inns etc - very cheap. The most difficult leg is through Chicago, if you would like my route etc, please email directly. I won't bore everyone with details.

With respect to flying, I always use air points to visit my family in Canada. It is simply too expensive to fly to Regina. Although, Calgary must have better access and competition than Regina.

Also, where you are going in NY will impact your cost point, NYC is much more expensive than Albany.

Good Luck! Hope you come to NY - we need visitors! You will love it!

Wendy

Hi Canuck! I was just looking at Air Canada's website and seems that there are some spring and summer seat sales. Prices from Calgary to New York (La Guardia airport) are $558.00 for the spring sale, and $608.00 for the summer sale- return. I do not think these include all the taxes. Sometime in April they are going to add a additional $24.00 in taxes, so they say book now if you wan't to avoid. Above prices in Canadian dollars. Hope this helps.
