Calgary hotel help needed

Hello,
My husband, adult son, and I will be visiting Calgary for the first time in mid June. I am having a hard time finding a hotel under $300 a night. We want to do the usual tourist attractions. Can anyone tell me about the Hotel Elan? Is that location ok for public transportation or walking? Any hotels right near the light rail...or would we be spending too much time traveling back and forth to museums, the tower, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

One of our Gumbo Gurus, DrFumblefinger over on Travel Gumbo, is in Calgary. He says come on over and post your query there:

Love Calgary, but I'm a bit prejudiced - it's where I'm from. Have never stayed at the Hotel Elan, but it looks like a good location. That area on 17th Ave is its own destination for shopping and restaurants, great for walking. Not far from downtown/Calgary Tower; from the downtown area you can catch the C train to the zoo, for example. See www.calgarytransit.com
If you try the Car2Go system, please do submit a review here! www.car2go.com/en/calgary/#

You didn't ask, but I hope some of your destinations include the Calgary Tower on a clear day, Heritage Park if you like to learn of days passed. Those are my top 2, there are of course lots more.

You might consider Hotel Alma, which is on the University of Calgary campus. The university is on the C-Train line, so convenient to get downtown. Contemporary hotel with budget prices.

Thank you all for your replies. We changed our dates so we are staying over a weekend and the prices are better.
