accomodation in victoria

We have two nights in Victoria, arriving by ferry from Seattle and then go back to Vancouver to fly back to Australia. Can we have a recommendation for basic accomodation (not to expensive) for two nights, either B and B or hotel or even hostel would be fine.
Thanks.

Could you be more specific about your budget (in CAD or US $)? Not too expensive for one person might be too much for another. I assume you'd want to stay close to the harbour to be close to most tourist activities.

I was thinking around $100 Canadian , but realize this may not be possible, plus we have to add on the tax I guess.

In Victoria we've stayed at the Dominion Hotel. The last time was two years ago, in early December. The rate was an almost unbelievable $50 per night, which included a full dinner for two and breakfast for two. It looks as though they were almost giving away the room, at that rate. Of course it may be higher in summer.

I believe the Dominion is actually older than its famous cousin, the Empress. Two years ago it was showing signs of age and definitely in need of a face-lift (don't know whether it's been upgraded since then), but it's good if you're looking for clean, budget accommodations. It's in a good, central location within walking distance of most places of interest.

Here's the URL. Definitely worth a look.

You didn't mind the Dominion, Vorkuta? It has some horrendous reviews on Trip Advisor and wouldn't be my choice of locations.

You don't say what time of the year you plan to visit, jbtraveller. Someone I know stayed at the Dogwood Manor B&B off-season for about $80. It's a large, tidy (you have to take your shoes off inside), quiet house in a nice neighbourhood. But it would be a fair walk into town.

Since you're arriving by ferry from Seattle and only have a couple of days, it would be nice to stay near the Inner Harbour to be close to the main sights, restaurants and downtown. Unfortunately, this is where some of the more expensive hotels are. The Crystal Court Motel is an oddity and not long for this world. It a very plain, old-old-style motel with outside entrances. But the location is one of the better ones without being right on the water. Walk out the door and you're nearly at the museum, inner harbour, Empress Hotel, etc.

Days Inn on the Harbour might fit your budget too and is in a great location.

By the way, if Butchart Gardens is in your plans, you can take a city bus for much cheaper than a tour bus.
