We want some exploring and relaxing..Tahiti 4 honeymoon?

My fiance and I both work at starwood hotels so we can stay at the Sheraton on Tahiti for $100 a night, Moorea for $100, and their resort on Bora Bora for $150.

We want to go to the islands for a couple of weeks. We love to explore on our own, dive in and snorkle and relax and enjoy the scenery, maybe rent a small boat, kayaks, scooter..

Our friend there and did a trip with Tahiti and Moorea. She was sick and didn't like the guy she was with..and just told me about how expensive it was, no air, boring, etc. She spent a lot of touristy things and didn't really go and explore anything on her own.

Do you think this would be a good place for us? We LOVED grand Bahama Island for 9 days and there wasn't much to do there...so think we would love to island hope..if there is enough to do.

Enough to do, hmm... I thought people went there to do nothing.

Yes, each hotel and others offer no shortage of activities -- snorkeling, scuba diving, motu picknic, lunch on water, day cruising, sunset cruising, submarine ride, glass bottom boat ride, car rental, moped rental, funcar rental, outrigger in laggon, etc, etc. Except for hotel pool and hotel's small outriggers, most activities cost alot. If you go there unprepared for a sticker shock, you will be disappointed. Hotels will provide you activity list with current prices so you can decide before you go.

People go to Tahiti to do nothing? Or to Grand Bahama to do nothing.

Well, usually we like to do our exploring on our own, we love to rent scooters..but how about the roads? Can we rent our own kayaks or a small boat? I personally hate all of the touristy tour things.

In grand bahama we had fun for 9 days renting scooters, finding our own place to snorkle, driving around, relaxing, exploring the islands. We want to do the same on Tahiti and it's islands, but for longer if we won't go poor and be bored.

We can also go to Fiji for $50 a night at the Westin there. So...Fiji or Tahiti? Is it easy to go to Fiji's islands on your own?

I have not been to Fuji, but you must see Tahiti if you have such a great opportunity to do so! Use your chance and go to all 3 islands.
I did that in 2004 and will recommend it to anyone.

The best way to fly to the Island of Tahiti and then transfer to Bora Bora right away! You will feel in paradise after just few hours.

Spend most of your time in Bora Bora in the beach and in the water. I highly recommend to go diving with sharks (they don't bite) - it is an unforgettable experience! Diving with Manta Rays is also very exiting, both dives are done in shallow waters and are an opportunity of a life time. If you can't dive - snorkel!

You can windsurf, snorkel almost everywhere, take a kayak for a small self-guided trip around the lagoon, or take a small boat and motor around trying to find a coral garden and snorkel off the boat.

They offer jeep trip on Bora Bora - skip that - the island is just a patch of red dirt - nothing to see, you will loose a day on the beach.

Go to Morea next. Sheraton there is good. The beach on Morea is not as nice as on BoraBora but the island looks like Kuai and is beautiful and lush. Here you can rent a car and go exploring. Restaurants are good, some shopping is also available. You can swim with dolphins there. You can also consider flying to Morea for the day - that's what I did.

Save Tahiti for the last 2 days before your departure. Sheraton there looks and feels like Vegas. Food tastes that way too. But they have good shows in the evening and it is fun to watch hula dancers and eat your lobster. I discovered that shopping was the cheapest in Tahiti but buy your souvenirs from the hotel's or local small vendors - not at the hotel's shops.

Food at the hotel (I stayed at La Meridian, BB) was spectacular. I still day dream about their breakfast buffets.
The food is expensive on all islands - so if you don't get discounts for the meals you will pay about $25 for breakfast per person (usually it is a buffet), $30 for lunch (also a buffet) and $60-100+ for dinner. Hard liqueur is expensive, but French wines and cognacs are offered at a reasonable (cheaper than in US) prices.

Meal plans work only for those who want to train for Sumo wrestling and come to any hotel mainly to eat. I found out that if I had a good breakfast I didn't need lunch. So you can actually save money on food by paying for each meal saparately. There are local markets that you can buy fruits from on each island. Their local pineapples are delicious!
Try Tahiti - now is a good time to go weatherwise.
Good luck,
K

I forgot to mention that kayaks, small boats, surfing equipment, snorkeling equip. and ferry service to the island and back was free when I was on Bora Bora.
You can check that with your hotels website.
You must be prepared to pay for the rest.
