Moorea vs. Kauai
We are planning our vacation for early December and want to visit a beautiful tropical island. We narrowed it down to 2 destinations but can't decide between Moorea and Kauai. We have heard that Kauai is every bit as beautiful as Moorea, and more affordable. Any advise or comments would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, Moorea is a bit more exotic than Kauai. You know that you're still in the good old USA on Kauai but Moorea is decidedly foreign. I like Moorea's beaches for usability but Kauai's beaches for breathtaking beauty. Kauai would probably be better for activities while Moorea is a better place to kick back. That said, they're both lovely places and would return to either in a heartbeat. RK

We have been to both. Kauai in '92 and Moorea in '97. The beaches in Moorea (particularly at the Sofitel Il Ora) are unparalleled in beauty. I agree with the previous post -- Moorea is decidedly foreign. Depending upon where you are, consider staying in California one night during the return trip. We live in St. Louis. We left Moorea by boat and stayed on Tahiti to catch a 7:00am flight to LA, had a 4 hour layover, flew to Las Vegas, changed planes and took the red-eye back to St. Louis. That's a long day any way you add it up.

Moorea is a world unto itself! So very beautiful...and not at all like Kauai. Frankly, there really is no comparison. Moorea is so beautiful, and the people friendly. We stayed at the Hyatt in Kauai...a beautiful hotel, but the island is nothing like Tahiti, and the beaches are not that great. You will never regret going to Moorea!
