Infant to New Zealand?

My husband are consider vacationing in New Zealand in September of 1999 with our then to be 10 month old son. We know the flight will be long, but we plan to use ff miles to fly 1st class on Air NZ. Any suggestions for where to go or not go? Are we too ambitious in taking our young son? Thanks for any advice.

I suggest you phone Air NZ and check 2 things
- is there a first class section on that leg? Lots of airlines have taken those seats out of some aircraft because of lack of demand. Even if they have, I agree that business class will be fine.
- do they allow infants in first or business. Many airlines don't.

Book early - there are very few seats allocated to air miles passengers.

It seems like an awfully long flight for a little baby. I fly to N.Z. at least once a year and it's pretty tiring, even for an adult. And Jeff is right, some airlines don't allow small children on first class, so be sure to check on that!

Ashlyn,
You'll be fine on the flight, Air NZ are "family friendly" so whether you fly 1st or business they'll take care of you. In fact the flight is a great flight for a young one because it is non-stop over a 12-13 hr period which will mean sleep for the young one. We have 3 kids and when you live in this part of the world all flights are long and we have found that they always have been fine - one bit of advice : don't worry about anyone around you , most parents get most stressed on flights by worrying what others wil think if their child crys etc - just remember that we were all children once and most of them are probably parents also so they will or should understand. As to what to do in NZ, september will be COLD , if you have around 2 weeks then you must visit both islands, driving in NZ is easy, some of the better spots to visit in geographic order would be: Auckland, Rotorua, Lake Taupo, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Milford Sound.
Good Luck!
