how much time for Kangaroo Island

I'm planning a two week honeymoon to Australia- never been there before, very excited!
I've heard Kangaroo Island is really cool, a great place to see wildlife. Neither my fiance or myself is big into nature, but I'd like to see it. How much time do you think we should spend there? I was thinking 1 or 2 days
thx

I think one day is ample, my wife and I did it by flying from Adelaide then bused it around the island. The pilot became the bus driver so no waiting for connections etc, we had a nice time and the best thing was we were back in Adelaide in time to go out for dinner.

Cheers

With only 2 weeks in Oz. I don't think I would waste my time going to Kangaroo Island. We went there last month for the 1st & last time. What other part of Oz do you think you will be going too so we can suggest where you may see wild life ?

I wouldn't recommend KI either. If you plan to visit South Australia for other reasons you could follow Paul_S's suggestion, but to me it sounds an expensive way to get fairly unexcited. If you had at least 3 weeks I'd say visit SA by all means, but if you're planning on doing the "basics" of Sydney and North Queensland, and you're not wildlife freaks anyway, I think you'd be better off not taking such a chunk out of your time to commune with the sea lions.

I must say I'm impressed that KI has such a profile with prospective visitors - I wonder if it's the name as much as anything? (Australia is full of kangaroos, after all.) I'm with AussieJo - we went there once and left feeling that we must have missed something. Maybe a guide would have made the difference?

I think I have to agree with above posters. Spent 2 nights on KI just a fortnight ago with a camping group - lots of fun and enjoyed the extended walks that you can do that you wouldn't get with a day tour. And the Remarkable Rocks were remarkable and the sea lions were in drama queen/king mode (which I expect they always are). Wonderful, and sad to think they are seriously endangered.
But - if I was coming to Australia for only 2 weeks and wasn't "big into nature" then it wouldn't be on my list.
If you are not big into nature why bother about trying to see wildlife in the wild?
There is so much to see - but would help if you said what you ARE interested in?

Yep, I agree with all the above posters. I recently returned from six weeks in Oz, and spent two days on KI. The Remarkables live up to their name, the seals, pelicans and kangaroos are pretty good, but if you've only got two weeks for all of Oz, I'd focus on other things, particularly if you're not 'big into nature'.

Where are you heading in Australia? Like the others say, if you give us an idea of where you're going then we can advise...
