Heron Island with a baby
My husband, 9 month old daughter and I will be staying 4 nights on Heron Island later this month. Has anyone with a baby been there before?
I am wondering if they have highchairs availabe. Otherwise we are going to have drag our stroller with us.
I am also curious if there are diapers availabe anywhere - I doubt it!
Lastly, we are moving into finger foods, so I am curious as to what kind of food they have on their buffet/at dinner.
Oh, and are there any shady areas on the island?
Thanks!!
Betsy

Heron Island is an eco-resort, which doesn't exactly have places to buy things. There is one store to buy T-shirts, some high end wear, and a small collection of sundries like tanning lotion. I would very much doubt there are diapers, and in fact, you may want to ask how they want you to dispose of them while you are there. There is a dive shop where you can rent gear, and a small medical facility which is open maybe 2 hours per day (with a nurse). No phones, TV, or internet. I'm sure I remember a high chair in the dining room. Unfortunately, one of the things we were aware of was that there wasn't much shade close to the water or pool, but there are big trees on parts of the island.

This is a little off the topic of Heron Island, but I can recommend this as a worthy investment to beat the highchair/stroller issue. It's called the little beetle. http://www.littlebeetle.com.au/ My sis-in-law (and my friends) all have one you just pop them over a chair and it straps the baby in (great for cafes!) they're about $50, but you should check ebay she got hers for half that and it hadn't been used.

Thanks for all the help/suggestions. I have an email out to them, but haven't gotten a response. I probably should just call. The beetle thing looks really handy. Unfortunately we are leaving next week so we don't have time to get something like that - I am sure it isn't available in my corner of Canada. Thanks again!

I was at Heron Island 2 weeks ago and I'm fairly sure they don't sell disposable nappies. There are laundries with washing machines and driers near each block of rooms, so washing cloth nappies could be OK.
There' s not a lot of shade on the beach, but there are small shaded areas round the bar and the pool.
I also think I saw a high chair there but best to check.
The buffets are for breakfast and lunch, dinner is table d'hote, the buffest are pretty varied both from day to day and in terms of both hot and cold food. Usually lots of salad and fruit and cheese at lunch, cold meats, seafood etc. They have a children's menu.
