Hello

Has anyone stayed in the Ayers Rock campground? It's only 2 of us (me and my wife). We are only staying there for 1 night and I was particularly interested in the Village Tent. It's 90 AUD. I wasn't sure how it will work out with the shared facilities for shower and toilet!! Also is the temp. comfortable in the 1st week of October as the tents won't have any A/C or Heater. What about bugs at night? Other options in the resort are quite expensive and from what I see on different threads, people did not have good experience with Outback Pioneer.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Yes I've camped at Ayers Rock, but not in the Village Tents. Can't comment - what do they provide? We were there in early April, so probably similar weather.
Cool/cold at night - warm/hot in the day.(Your take on this will depend on your local climate - I'm Australian so possibly used to more temperate climates than US/UK visitors.)
Most tents in my experience don't have air conditioning!(LOL)
Ours had zip closings, but we chose to sleep in our "swags" outside for the experience. The facilities were v.good. You don't need to share a shower with anyone unless you choose to do so ... saving water's a priority here, you know Haven't seen a "dual dunny" for a very long time ... and they were child/adult size side by side, not for concurrent useage.

Forgot to say ... take some insect/fly repellent. You're more likely to be "bugged" by flies during the day in October than anything, but may be a few mosquitoes around at night. Also, make sure you take sunscreen & a hat. 30+. And more water to drink than you think you need.

Also, as you're only there one night, do be aware if you're planning to climb the rock, that it can be closed (to climbers ... you can still walk around it) if it is too hot/windy/wet.
If you're going early in the morning (sunbreak), it WILL be cool/cold, so take a jacket which you will dump around 7-8 O'clock.

Bokhara, from the web site the description I have is "The village tent comprise of a floored canvas cabin style tent, with two single beds, linen, a bedside table, recharable lantern and towels."
Looks like some kind of permanent tent on a concrete floor.

Thanks for your suggestions, will remember to carry the fly repellent for sure.

Outback Pioneer suited me just fine - at the hostel end of it. What was it that people didn't like?

But that would mean a dorm, so if you must have privacy at the cheapest end, then I guess you have to tent it.

What do you mean "how it will work out with shared facilities for shower and toilet"? It means what it says - there will be an "ablutions block" - many loos and many showers. Are you worried about having to wait to use them?

Campsites/caravan sites/holiday villages - whatever you want to call them - are overall of a fantastically high standard in Australia.
