Three weeks is good for New Zealand. You should be able to visit both islands in that time frame.

Kangaroo Island is in South Australia and a long drive from Adelaide (although there are probably fights from Adelaide)

I suggest you trim your nights in Melbourne and spend a few of those nights exploring the Great Ocean Road, which is easily done from Melb.

Tasmania is a wonderful state, but I'd not try to fit it into your already busy schedule. You'd regret rushing through TAS, as there's so much to see and do there.

Three weeks is certainly doable for NZ, but you'll still have to make some compromises. I suggest one week on the NI and two on the SI. You'll still wish you had more time though, and there will be quite a bit of driving involved as distances in NZ are much longer than they appear on a map. Roads are narrow and winding and there are many reasons to stop along the way.

I'd trim the time in Melbourne and add it by going to Tasmania.

Three weeks in NZ is a good amount of time and you'll be able to cover / see quite a bit (although, there's never enough time is there?!)

I would trim your time in Uluru to 1 night. There's nothing there except the big rock.

Tasmania is beautiful but very similar to NZ so I wouldn't worry about trying to fit it in.

I love Melbourne & Sydney so don't trim your time there. There's plenty to do in both cities and if you hire a car you can take day trips. Melbourne is considered the fashion capital. Its also known for its trendy cafes and bars. As I said you'll find plenty to do.

The Great Ocean Road is worth seeing if you can fit it in.
