Would not recommend Hotel Tjampuhan outside Ubud, Bali
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Tjampuhan in June and were very disappointed. We found it to be musty, moldy, dusty and in need of renovation. They downgraded their shuttle service from allowing guests to be taken and picked up whenever and where ever we wanted to only once an hour and only to two locations. I find the transport people who follow me down the street to be very annoying and I don't want to use them. There are lots of steps and they are slippery when it rains because of the mold. Room service was often grumpy because of all the steps too! Most of the rooms are very different and if you look at each room you can find one decorated nicer and larger for the same price. Best thing about the hotel is Naughty Nuri's down the street! I've been to Ubud 6 times and there are hotels that are so much nicer!

I can't believe that hotel is still surviving. It never gets mentioned here for one thing so I am surprised anyone would be staying there. I stayed there once about 18 years ago and it sounds like it has not had a redo since then. They had very little competition then and certainly are out of the market now... A lovely setting to be sure. Long on charm and very short on everything else. HOw in the world had you not seen or heard about it on previous trips? You should have come to us first!!!

I checked out Komaneka which seems to be alot more expensive but since I am staying for 6 nights I do not want to make a mistake. I am looking for something small, quaint and close to the town.
What do you think? Cicerone, Serena
or anyone ??

A little place I have always liked, but have not seen myself in probably 5 years, is the Kebun Indah, near the Monkey Forest. A lovely place. It is a series of bungalows and is run by the Cafe Wayan people who have a great restaurant nearby. Lovely pool, very quiet and private. Very simple but comfortable. They have a big house which has two bedrooms would be great for a family. You might want to run a check to see if someone on this board has stayed there or seen a room recently, or check tripadvisor.com, as I can’t vouch for the rooms at this point.
They have some more expensive properties which I have not seen, see the website below.
