Where to go on 2.5 week long honeymoon in late June/early July?

So I've been struggling to pinpoint a destination for my 18 day honeymoon in mid to late June/early July this summer. We are looking for sunny skies and great beaches with calm waters, somewhere we can stay directly on the beach and walk out into the ocean. We'd love to stay in an overwater bungalow but know these are few and far between in this area of the world. Also, some water activities like snorkeling or kayaking would be great.

I have wanted to go to Thailand for some time but understand that this is the rainy season for the majority of Thai islands. So far we are looking at Indonesia and Ko Samui. Any other suggestions or thoughts on these places?

We're not big on temples for this trip as we've spent a fair amount of time in India and Japan seeing those type of sights. We'll likely explore the culture but temple hopping won't be a focus. That said, is it worth the long flight from the US? We have other trips planned to the Caribbean and would like a farther flung locale for our honeymoon but I'm having second thoughts.

Ko Samui, of curse, is in Thailand, and is a fine destination in June/July. You would want a stop in Bangkok as well on your trip - fascinating city, fabulous food great shopping.

June/July is high season in Bali. Bali is a great destination for exploring another culture. The scenery is beautiful, with the vivid green rice terraces. With 18 days, I'd suggest adding one more destination if you go to Bali, such as Lombok (quiet, beautiful beaches) or central Java for Borobudur - the largest Buddhist monument in the world. There is also beautiful scenery, especially if you drive to the Dieng Plateau.

If all you want is a beach, you can find many lovely beaches closer to home - the Caribbean or Hawaii as examples. If you want the experience of a different culture as well as the beach, both Thailand and Indonesia are excellent option.

You'll get good weather in Bali and Lombok in June/July but you may not find the type of beaches that you envision. If you're looking for white sand and calm turquoise water there are better choices. However if you'd settle for a pretty nice beach plus phenomenal nature and culture then Bali/Lombok is a good combination.

For a honeymoon beach location I'd second Qunci in Lombok and add in Bali The Legian (the one in Seminyak) and the Amankila. Qunci has a good swimming beach. The Legian is a wide sandy big wave beach with fantastic sunsets. Amankila is a black sand private beach.

There's good snorkeling near Amankila and in parts of Lombok though not off the beach.

You'll want to spend some time in the Ubud area too. I like Uma Ubud in town and the Alila (especially the suites) and Como Shambhala in the countryside.

Plus there are beautiful private pool villas all over Bali. Look at the listings on Elite Havens website.

July 15 is a major Hindu holiday in Bali and it's a good time to be there. July 18 is a major Islamic holiday in Lombok and is not a good time to be there or to be traveling anywhere in Indonesia.

Thanks for the information. We are definitely looking for white sand beaches and turquoise waters so maybe this isn't the right location for our honeymoon, as much as I'm interested in the region. Lots of good info to consider
