Depends on what your arrival time is.
Just returned from BKK and our flight from Seim Reap arrived there at 6:30 P.M. We were met by our tour guide who had a mini van. It was rush hour traffic, BKK has 10 million people, and it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to our hotel. Try to avoid the rush hour.
If you arrive around midnight the traffic isn't as bad. I think a taxi is around $20.
Enjoy Thailand.

I agree that the amount of time will depend on what time of day you travel, but in no event should it cost you $20. More like $5. During early morning or at night or on a weekend when there is little traffic, it may only take a half hour. Otherwise it could take closer to an hour. An hour and a half would be atypical except during the very heaviest rush hour traffic.

I've found pre-paid taxis are great. Right outside the terminal, to the left, is the pre-paid taxi stand. You'll most likely see a small line. Just give him/her your destination, pay, you get a slip, then pop into the taxi. Very efficient. Time, hard to say, with traffic and all. At least an hour. And about $5 sounds right.
