Trekking in Tibet?
My boyfriend and I are going to be in Kunming mid October and thinking of going to Tibet for a trek before heading to Yangshuo and onward to Thailand. I understand its starting to get colder to trek end of October. Has anyone done something similar and have a company to recommend. Looking for a relatively short (and inexpensive trek)... about a week? The other option is to skip Tibet and trek elsewhere. Is there anything close to what we would see in Tibet? Thank you!!!

I had a great experience in Sikkim. You can do the 8 day goecha-la trek. I organized it with a local guide named Sherap. His son controls his email: [email protected]. I have pictures on my blog from my shorter trek with him at mytb.org/blgerber. Sikkim is amazing and you are not supporting the chinese destroy tibetan culture.

Thank you! Sikkim does sound great and looks like the weather is good when we would be going. I will email this guy to get some info. Most of my research shows going through Nepal though to get there, do you think its easy from China as well?

that is what i have in this card. I have his cell which is 9832336197 or 9832471519 i think indias country code is 91. You can always book when you are there. You need a permit which you can get when you apply for your indian visa (its free). I am not sure about getting to sikkim via china as I was already in India. He is from the town of yuksom which is a great place. If you don't arrange it in yuksom most of it is done from Gangtok which is a big city and most of the money then stays there and not with the locals. Either way its breath taking and well worth the haul. Sikkim is one of the little known pleasures of India.
