Check also Karauli City palace. a little known, non touristy, but not far from Jaipur, Rajasthani small town with incredible , similarly vivid frescoes, ceiling paintings, local scenes, pix of British soldiers, etc. ( One of these days, will learn to transfer iPhotos to Shutterfly so I can post pix!)

I smiled when I saw the article having been there some time ago. We spent a couple of nights in the area at the Apani Dhani Eco Lodge which I can recommend.

We found it very interesting and at the time it was certainly less touristed than some areas of Rajasthan. If I remember rightly it was fairly easy to take a train back from there to Delhi.
My all time favorite was the mural of Queen Victoria!
