We were there about 3 months ago! I'll be posting photos and my trip report soon, as part of the ongoing one now.

Thanks for posting this, Kathie, it was very interesting.

Thanks for the link. I visited Shekhawati back in 2001, and wondered how long the frescoes would last, given how run down the area seemed. Glad there's at least some restoration going on.

Thanks for the link -- it's an area that intrigues me, too, and perhaps someday we will get there.

Thank you, Kathie! Love the quote about humor:
"the highest form of mysticism. As far as spirituality goes, it is the top.”
No wonder I love India!

Check also Karauli City palace. a little known, non touristy, but not far from Jaipur, Rajasthani small town with incredible , similarly vivid frescoes, ceiling paintings, local scenes, pix of British soldiers, etc. ( One of these days, will learn to transfer iPhotos to Shutterfly so I can post pix!)

I smiled when I saw the article having been there some time ago. We spent a couple of nights in the area at the Apani Dhani Eco Lodge which I can recommend.

We found it very interesting and at the time it was certainly less touristed than some areas of Rajasthan. If I remember rightly it was fairly easy to take a train back from there to Delhi.
My all time favorite was the mural of Queen Victoria!

Thanks for the link. Will be visiting there in October. Noted CaliNurse's suggestion too. Will research Karauli City Palace.
