Really unhappy with Hyatt Singapore and Hyatt Hong Kong

I've just done a business trip to Asia 11/29- 12/7, with first 3 days in Hyatt Singapore, next 3 days in Hyatt Regency HKG. Unfortunately I had very bad experiences that left a total bad taste in my mouth.

I checked into the Sing Hyatt after an exhausting flight SFO-SIN, arriving at the hotel at 2AM, only to be told that my room was not ready. Not only that, the junior suite I had reserved was "not available" and I was down graded without any comp. (the rate was adjusted). I talked to the "hotel manager" and he said- paraphrasing "we're totally booked, what you want me to do?" Adding insults to injury, I had to wait over an hour before my "room" became ready.

Then in HKG, I was in the gold passport line, my traveling companions were in the regular line. They were done WAY before I moved a step. I moved over to the regular line, only to learn that my room was not available. Here comes another REALLY bad part - One of my travel companions said tp the check-in agent: "I've just given up my non-smoking room for a smoking one, shouldn't mine be showing up as available for him?" The lady acted dumb and made me wait 10 minutes before I got my room.

The employees at the HK Hyatt probably won't have a job by Jan 1.

Not an excuse, just an explanation of what's going on.

I'm a Hyatt Plat. Passport member, and I have to concur with you about those two Hyatts. The one in Hong Kong is getting ready to close, and while the service I received there was ok, the hotel itself was very tired...

The Grand Hyatt Singapore used to be my favorite hotel in Singapore. No longer. They did a big redecoraitng of the rooms moving them from "old world elegant" for "cheap, uncomfortable modern." The service in the Regency Club was greatly reduced, more like a cafeteria. I noted when I was last in Singapore, a little more than a year ago that there was a new manager. Not an improvement.

If you had booked the room for 'that night' then it should have been available, a lot of hotels will cancel a booking if you don't arrive by say 6 pm and you need to tell them if you are arriving late, if they knew you were arriving 'very' late then the room should certainly have been ready.

Yeah, the Hyatt Regency HK is on Nathan Road, and is ready to be torn down. The nicer Grand Hyatt is at the HK Convention Center complex in Wan Chai.

Did the original poster say which Hyatt he stayed at?

By the way, thanks, rk, for the Marco Polo suggestion. I've booked a Harbor View room for 1400 HKD + taxes. I can still cancel though.

His post says the Hyatt Regency, so I assume that's the one he stayed in, not the Grand Hyatt.

You're right -- it's in the first sentence. I don't know how I missed it. Thanks!
