Outlet stores in Hong Kong
Could anyone please provide locations of outlet stores in Hong Kong, ie those that sell brand-name items at bargain prices? What about reliable shops selling secondhand branded items (reliable meaning no fakes)?

I am not a huge shopper at outlets, and you have to have a good bit of patience to wade through crap and small sizes (which I don’t have and which I am not). If you hit a place on a good day and take your time, there are bargains to be found. IMO, though there is so much great stuff to see and do in Hong Kong, including shopping for really interesting stuff and little boutiques in Soho, not to mention the glorious walks here with stunning views, that I would not spend a whole lot of time hunting for “bargains” that you might never find...do comparison shopping at home so you know when you are actually getting a good price.
I believe that the Hong Kong Tourism Board has a pamphlet on this, and may even offer shopping tours to the outlets, check their website at discoverhongkong.com
Outlets for Clothing
1. Pedder Building
12 Pedder St, Central
(Central MTR)
The Pedder Building is about an 8-storey building smack in the middle of the business district in Central on Hong Kong Island. Shangahi Tang is located in the basement and first floor and is worth a stop (not a discount place). This building used to be full of discount shops. It still has some, mostly selling Chanel and other upmarket designers, and again in small sizes. They are mostly on the 4th and 5th floors, a few on the 6th, but if you have the patience, go to them all. The shops in this building are slowly being replaced by non-discounters, and every time I go back, something else is there (there is now a great kitchen store on the 4th floor, but you probably aren’t interested). You have to look a lot. Beware of most of the cashmere in this building as I believe it is all fake, OTHER than at the wonderful Blanc de Chine, on the second floor, which is decidedly not a discount shop.
2. Esprit Outlet
Basement

(about one block from the Star Ferry pier on Salisbury, the Peninsula Hotel is on the corner)
Can't really speak for the clothing part, but it appears to have a good selection; I go for the Red Earth cosmetics discount area of the shop. It is very conveniently located in Tsim Sha Tsui near the Star Ferry, the Peninsula and the Chinese Arts and Crafts Shop, so it is very easy to pop in quickly.
3. Lane Crawford Warehouse – 25th Floor
Max Mara Outlet 27th Floor
Horizon Plaza
2 Li Wing Street
Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong Island
(near Aberdeen)
This is in a huge warehouse of mostly furniture/antique stores. Lane Crawford is an upscale Hong Kong department store and has a good size discount outlet here. It can be very hit or miss, but bargains are there are designer goods. Max Mara also has an outlet shops here and has a small but good selection, prices are quite good as well, about 1/3 of their retail store prices. You need to take a taxi, will take about 20 minutes from Central and cost about US$20. You could combine this with a trip to Aberdeen as it is not too far; this is also very close to the Prada designer outlet at Space (see below), would be about 5 minutes by taxi and cost about US$3. The Max Mara outlet is closed on Mondays
4. Space

Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong Island
This is the Prada designer outlet for all its lines. You also need to take a taxi, would be about 20 minutes from Central and cost about US$20. They do have a lot of stock. You have to be a bit patient and look.
5. Lok Wah
Lok Wah City, 11 Lee Garden Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong (Causeway Bay MTR)

Top World, 175 Fa Yuen Street, Lok Wah (Mong Kok MTR stop)
Top Place, 53/55 Granville Road, Kowloon (Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Stop)
There are 4 outlets, one on Hong Kong Island and three in Kowloon. Have not been, but they apparently sell various designer brands at good prices, but you have to be lucky and hit them on a good day.
6. Kaiser Estate
Hung Hom, Kowloon
e.g. the Diane Freis outlet is 10/F, Unit A1, 41 Man Yue St
Adidas, 1st Floor, Flat G, Man Yue Street
This is one of the original discount outlet areas in Hong Kong. Take the Star Ferry to Hung Hom and then a taxi, you can also take 5 C bus from the Star Ferry piers at Hung Hom, alight when you reach Ma Tau Wai Road. You are looking for buildings on Man Yue Street, and Hok Yuen Street. This area is very industrial, its a lot of warehouses and you have to hunt around a bit. It is safe, but can be a little spooky as sometimes there are very few people around (rare for Hong Kong). Some places are closed on Saturdays, so I would go on a weekday just to get the best chance of places being open. A map of this area is helpful, your hotel may have one, or the Hong Kong tourist office may have one. You can also just take a taxi from the Star Ferry piers in Tsim Sha Tsui, cost would be less than US$10, it is pretty close. The ferry ride from Central to Hung Hom, however is quite pretty and much longer than the ferry ride between Central and TST, so will give you some good harbour views and photo opportunities.
7. Dickson Warehouse
Kowloon MTR

Carries all kinds of brand names. They tend to have all sizes, including larger Western sizes. They have a good selection of ski jackets, outerwear and sporting goods. I would say there prices are good but not fantastic, do some comparison shopping at home to make sure you recognize a good price here.
8. The Lanes on Hong Kong Island
Li Yuen East Street
Li Yuen West Street
All days until around 7 pm in the evenings
These two narrow pedestrian lanes run between Queens Road and Des Voeux Road in Central. They are just past a McDonalds on Queens Road on your right. Some designer stuff, mostly T-shirts and some knock-offs. May be better for fake bags and watches than any clothing or souvenirs, as quality is not really great.
9. Jardine's' Bazaar
Sogo Department Store area – Causeway Bay MTR
Hennessey Road
This area is changing a lot, and every time I go, more little stalls are closed and are replaced by restaurants, mobile phone shops or second hand designer bag shops. But if you have the time to walk around all the little streets here and spend a few hours, there are some small shops do have designer items at good prices. You have to have patience to find bargains. Lok Wah, mentioned below under "Outlets for Clothing", is not far away on Lee Garden Street, so you could do both and spend the afternoon wandering the little shops.
You might also wander around Nathan Road on the Kowloon side, especially the Ladies Market around Tung Choh Street (near Nathan Road) which is supposed to have some bargains.
Second Hand Shops
If you want to buy second hand but authentic bags like Louis Vuitton, Prada, etc, try the Milan Station shops, there are several located in Hong Kong. Take a look at – for locations. As far as I know, these bags are genuine (at least the police don’t raid them while they do raid the night markets...) Prices here are only about 20-30%% of the original prices, so still pricey but a real bargain compared to the original prices. (They are sold to the stores by the tai-tais of Hong Kong who would not, literally, be seen dead with last year’s bag....) Bargain very hard, don’t pay the list price ever, as the list price is close to the brand store price for current models, and you are buying last year’s model. The main shops are:

I think there are second hand/consignment shops for clothing in Hong Kong, but I don’t know anything about them.

the tourist office at star ferry has a little pamphlet with many of the places listed in it....peddeler building was especially good...
we also found good places in kowloon by just looking up into the signs along the street and then taking elevators to the 6th or 7th floor...

What about the Outlet Mall at the entry to the Cable car??...I forget what it was called...but there was a good selection of outlet stores, including Columbia and unfortunately my mind is blank so i can't think of any other names...
But we spent many hours wondering through there after taking the cable car.

Outlet shop "near the entry to the cable car"? OK I live in Hong Kong, and I am stumped, where do you mean? Near the bottom entrance to the Peak Tram on Cotton Tree Drive? That is all office buildings, Hong Kong Park and St John's Catherdral, there aren't any shops "near" it to the best of my knowledge. Do you mean at the top of the Peak Tram somewhere in the Peak Galleria? Or does cable car mean the tram? Or do you mean you walked to Wan Chai from the Peak Tram cable car and wandered through some of the outlet shops there?

Could TracyB be referring to the Citygate Outlets at Lantau Island? They do have Columbia, Nike, Adidas, etc for their sporting goods stores, Bally, Calvin Klein, Giordano, Levis, etc for designer fashion, a host of brand names for accessories and children's fashion, houseware, etc. Check out their website www.citygateoutlets.com.hk.

Oh that's what she means by "cable car" perhaps...I see. That's a term often used to refer to the Peak Tram, because it is a cable car. Hong Kong may need to come up with some new terms. Have not been to that outlet.

Yes, that's what i meant about Cable Car..sorry i shoulda specified...But anyways..we really enjoyed that mall, bought most of our stuff there..
We like Columbia clothes and it was way cheaper in Hong Kong than Canada..Also bought some Sketchers that were about $40.00 cheaper in HKG!! So happy shopping!!

The Peak Tram is a <b>funicular</b> or <b>incline</b>; though it's pretty unique with a turn, varied incline angle and the cars look like regular streetcars. But it's still a funicular. Its Chinese name, however, does translate to "cable car".
The NP360 Skyrail and the Ocean Park cable car are <b>gondola lifts</b>. The NP360 one is a massive system with huge gondolas and three cable systems with two angle stations. Such system are indeed often referred to as "cable cars", but that term is quite broad. It's clearly not the same as San Francisco's "Cable Car".

Hi Guys, Does anyone know about second-hand stores or places where I can find second-hand/ vintage TIES?
Or is there any place where second hand school uniforms are sold... they surely have old ties there...

There are three charity shops in Hong Kong which primarily sell used clothing, household goods and other odds and ends. They may have ties, I have never looked. Pickings are a little slim overall in these shops you may find. Use and vintage clothing is not that popular here in my experience. (Flea markets basically don’t exist in Hong Kong, at least none that I have ever found and nothing like on the scale of Rome, Paris, etc or even Mumbai.) Shops are located on the Hong Kong side in the basement of Jardine House right at the Star Ferry (Oxfam, go to http://www.oxfam.org.hk/english/), and on Stanley Main Street in Stanley as well as other locations, (Salvation Army, go to http://www.salvation.org.hk/english/index.htm), and on the Kowloon side in the Silvercord Building on Nathan Road on the Kowloon side (also see the Oxfam site).
I can ask around about shops for second hand school uniforms (I don't have any kids). Sizing may be an issues, the ties may be very tiny and narrow, but may be worth a shot.

TracyB, prices were probably expected to be much cheaper in HKG than in Canada. Would you (or anyone else) know if prices at Citygate are cheaper than elsewhere in HKG?
