One Day in KL

Hi , I have 2 night stopover in KL , so basically one day to do as much as possible in KL. Any suggestions on what I should not miss ? Any great night markets? I hear there is a Little India in KL , is it any good? Also, I would like to try a nice retaurant with a panoramic view of the city...... Is there one at the top of the towers? I really don't know much about KL at all, so help would be great !Thanks !

Hi,
We had from 5pm till 11am the next day in KL this march. We had a brilliant time, very hectic, but we managed to fit quite alot in .We stayed at the shangri-la,which is in a great location.First we walked to the menara tower, went up it,and booked a meal for later in the revolving restaurant at the top of the tower.Back to the hotel , and a quick shower and change, then went for our meal, really good, and the views are fantastic,we went as the sun was setting,by the time we left it was really dark, and everywhere was lit up ,you get a great all-round view of KL.After our meal we got a taxi to china town, and had a look at all the stalls at the night market. The next morning we were up early, and went to the petronas towers ,we got tickets for the first viewing of the day at 9am,and went up to the viewing bridge, again great views. We then spent a couple of hours looking around the huge shopping mall in the petronas towers, before flying to Langkawi.

I am in the same boat as the previous poster. I will have an eight hour layover, returning from New Delhi to LAX, in KL. Of the eight hours, I think it would be safe to spend about 5 hours exploring Kuala Lumpur.

I would love to see the Petronas? Towers, as I visited the very tall building in Shanghai while there a couple years ago and enjoyed it. Anything else I could do nearby???

Thanks.

Roccco, have you decided on which ticket to get? I expect that you would be able to make at least one stopover in KL, probably one each way, if you got the award ticket. You might be able to do it on the purchased tickets too, for no extra charge, but that is less likely.

Obviously you'll want to check out Petronas Towers. There is a huge upscale mall just under the towers so lots to see there.
Check for dates to see if you can take a tour of Petronas Towers...I've heard sometime soon they will close this off to visitors for a while.
Central Market,China town,Butterfly garden and many more places to visit are just some ideas. Best to get a tourist map.

Best view of KL city (with a restaurant in it) would be in KL Tower.
Expensive from what I've heard.
Never been, but then again I have a great view of petronas and KL towers from my apt window.

For those with layovers wanting to go into KLCC:
It is a 1 hr. drive (give or take)to get there. So allow yourself plenty of time to return to airport. Would'nt want to miss your flt!
If you want to meet friendly locals then hook up w/(VTers) at virtualtourist.com in the KL section. From what I read, they often meet w/ travellers coming through and go out for drinks/dinner.
Just a thought, not trying to promote another site.

There is now a train from KLIA into town (not right into town, but from there you can take another train or a quick taxi ride), which takes about 45 minutes (including the time it takes to buy your ticket and wait for the next train). There is hardly anything out by the airport, unless you want to go see the F1 track.

Petronas Towers have been back open to the public since August 31. A bit over-rated though as you can only go up as high as the skybridge and that's not really that high. Otherwise you're just in a mall. Whoopdeedoo. Menara KL ("KL Tower&quot is good for the view; I have no idea if the restaurant is any good, but since Malaysians like to rave about good food I think I'd have heard about it if it was!

Batu Caves are worth a look. A bit out of town (14km), but if you time your visit after or before rush "hour" traffic won't be too bad and you can get a taxi there in no time.

The most touristy nightmarket is on Petaling Street (Chinatown). I've heard they have recently covered the whole street and redone the lights, so the market will be in full swing even in rain. Not much in the way of handicrafts or anything like that - it's all designer knock-off type stuff, and the police have recently cracked down on pirated DVDs and such so you can't even stock up on those! If you want to buy souvenirs and things, check out Central Market, which is very near Chinatown, near the river. Bargain hard.

If you want a real nightmarket, like the kind Malaysians go to, just check any of the local papers and they will tell you where they are that night, any night of the week.

There is a Little India, but not much to it. Very near Chinatown so you can do both. Have "Banana Leaf" for lunch if you like spicey stuff - yum!

Bangsar is popular with tourists and expats for an evening hot spot, but it is slightly out of the city centre. Also Bukit Bintang, which is in the city.

Hope that helps.
