9 Hours in Singapore...what to do?
So the airline has emailed and our layover is now 9 hours, YUCK. But we'll try to make the most of it.
We depart Brisbane at around 9am on a Saturday, arriving into S'pore at 3pm local time. We should be feeling okay, as its still the same day (no missed sleep) and we are flying b/class. So I'm thinking we should leave the airport, anyone done the city tour departing the airport? I was thinking we could do that, maybe have a drink at Raffles and then freshen up in the lounge before the long flight to London.
Or does someone have another suggestion?

With 9 hours, I'd decide on one thing I wanted to see (Museum of Asian Civilizations? Orchid Garden?) and have a really wonderful meal.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with the Singapore Sling at the LongBar at Raffles. But I do love wandering through the public area of the hotel, the shopping arcade and the charming little museum. You might opt to have a drink at Doc Cheng's - more atmospheric than the LongBar, IMO.
Another drink venue is atop the new Sands casino. It's supposed to be a great place for sunset drinks.

I was in Singapore in June and was walking around Raffles at about 10am, and it was very quiet. You could go and have a drink but after looking around the public areas of the hotel i would be grabbing a taxi out of there.
Singapore is not that big so with 9 hours if you want to move on you can always grab a taxi.
Not sure if you want to go walking around Orchard Road, but we found a great dumpling place on the lower floor of Paragon. You could always hang around there for lunch and have a look at a few shops.
Clarke Quay is great in the evening, but it did not do much for me during the day time.
On your way back to the airport you can always drop in and see Marina Bay Sands and have a drink.
ps. thanks for the info on car hire (the other post). Had a look at the website and it looks very good.

sorry aussiedreamer, just re read your post.
i think the tour from the airport would be a good idea.
maybe later on in the evening you could have dinner around clarke quay area. it was buzzing and very touristy but ok for one evening.

hey millie2112,
yeah I've had a good look and I think we may do the 'Night Tour' thats offered. That gives us a couple of hours to shower/refresh in the lounge, do the tour and then dinner and a freshen up back in the lounge. Seems silly to 'go out' for dinner when there is such and amazing array on offer in the S'pore lounge.
Glad I could help, how long will you be away?

then your best bet is to do the night tour, and then go back to the lounge and have dinner there.
You will be able to have a nice look around without getting too tired. even though your flight should be ok, it sounds as if you will be up early that day, so by the time you get back to the airport you will be tired.
my dh and I are off next year for about 2 months. Have not decided that. First time without the adult children so it will be interesting to travel just on our own. and DH really wants to do the drive. The fun will be the planning. I love that part. I will need to pick your brains later. I loved your trip report, and your drive is similar to what I would like to do.
have a great holiday!!

Warm greetings aussiedreamer and early congrats on spending some (short) time in our fine home of Singapore. Special part of the world.
Will your evening business class flight to London be aboard SQ322 perchance? If so, the flight is currently conducted via those serene A380s. I've had the privilege of flying some of SQ's A380s in business class for work and all flights have been most enjoyable on those upper decks.
SIA presently operates a couple of SilverKris Lounges at Changi. The LHR bound flights currently leave from Terminal 3 and the SKL in that terminal is quite acceptable, as you may already know.
(And should you care to experiment with your dining options, SIA has made a bit of a revamp with her Book the Cook offerings. Of late, I've been partial to some Singaporean and Malay dishes, flying ex-SIN. Much more to be found on the singaporeair website.)
I am very happy for you. SQ is my primary business travel carrier these days; always an honour with some great crews and friends. And, always a pleasure to return home to Singapore.
Early and warm weekend wishes to you and all from SE Asia,
macintosh (robert)
