Need help on local transport in hong kong
Will be visiting Hong Kong next week and need help on local transport:
1. Will be moving hotel (Just me) from L hotel causeway bay to Stanford hotel, Mongkok with one luggage. Should I take the MTR or Taxi? If taxi, how much roughly would it cost?
2. Tranportation to Olympian City from Stanford hotel?
3. A question not related to transport but need advice on where I can purchase reasonably cheap animal costume/outfit for my son (5 yr old) in causeway bay or Mongkok area?
Your advices would be greatly appreciated!

1. Taxi from L'Hotel to Stanford, including tunnel fees, is about HK$100. Maybe $120 with traffic.
I wouldn't take the MTR. Many escalators down to train, then fight the crowds changing trains at Admiralty. Instead, if your suitacase isn't that big, you may be better off with the Tunnel buses. #102 and #112 stop on King's Road, 200 yards up from the L'Hotel (similar distance to Tin Hau MTR). They stop on Nathan Road at Dundas St. You cross Nathan Road, then walk 5 short blocks on Soy St to Stanford. [Shorter walk than if you take the MTR to either Yau Ma Tei or Mongkok.]
2. There are a few buses from Olympian City back to Mongkok proper, like #16, and perhaps some minibuses too. But taxi should be pretty cheap, $15-20.

Let me add that there are Olympian City 1 and 2, which are two separate malls on opposite side of the MTR station. You can find transportation here, though it's not that helpful:
www.olympiancity.com.hk/OC/transport_eng.asp
The bus stops are on public streets outside the shopping center. I still think taking a taxi will be easiest to/from there.

1. You can take the MTR. It's not bad if you go before 3pm. After 3pm, don't bother because the MTR and the Mongkok area are going to be jammed pack with people. Even without luggage, you are going to be shoulder to shoulder with others.
3. Since you are staying at Stanford, try the Ladies market. You can find many cheap(price and quality) stuffs there.
Try Satay King Restaurant.

For children's costumes, I would suggest you try Pottinger Street in Central. This is a pedestrian-only street of stalls a few blocks from the Central MTR on Hong Kong Island near the escalator and the Hollywood Road/Soho area. They always have a big selection of Halloween costumes in the fall. You may have to ask them to dig them out now from the back, or they may have to send off for them in storage and you come back later after doing some shopping or sightseeing. There are lots of good restaurants and shops in the area and the Man Mo Temple up on Hollywood Road is quite itneresting, so this is an area you would be going to anyway, IMO.
