Is language a problem in Japan? My family along with our kids is planning to visit Japan this June but I've heard Japanese can not comprehend english..one more query that should we visit japan or Philippines. .

This depends on where you're going in Japan. While there is English-language signage in places where large numbers of the public congregate (e.g. public transit, major tourist attractions, some restaurants, hotels, street signs), it isn't as prevalent than you may expect in other countries. If you are in a large city, it shouldn't be hard to locate someone who speaks some level of English, although the level of comprehension can be quite varied.

Lots of people in Japan speak English, especially young people. If they can't understand you - or vice versa -write things down. They are usually more experienced with written than spoken English.

If you ask "Can you speak English?" people will often say no. They are embarrassed if you put them on the spot. Instead, just speak slowly and clearly, and you'll be surprised how many will be able to answer your questions.

You've already gotten some great advice. Let me add a couple of things: DO try to learn at leas some basic civilities (hello, thank you, etc.). DO always carry the name of your hotel and/or destinations written in Kanji so people will be able to help you get where you are going. DO carry a good phrase book with you.

Im have just returned from my first visit to Tokyo. I found most people could speak english enough to help me. Japanese people are very polite and courteous, so they are very patient and helpful. You will discover that Tokyo is very clean and the people very respectful of others. You will also see that Tokyo is mainly boring boxy highrise buildings that expand out to its extremities. I agree with above, always carry a business card from your hotel with the address on it, just incase you get lost.
