KL: Has anyone stayed at the new Hilton at the RR station?

The newly opened HILTON in KL sounds wonderful and convenient. Has anyone stayed there? Planning to take the train from Singapore to KL. How is the train? MOst on this board, don't sound too impressed with KL but it sounds like a good place to relax for a few days before heading to BKK. Is there a malaria problem in DEc in KL??? Many thanks for the help.

Haven't heard a thing about it. We like the Mandarin Oriental - we have stayed in quite a few of the "nice" hotels in KL and we keep going back to the MO.

There is no malaria problem in KL at all.

Haven't taken the train but I've heard it's just fine.

The new Hilton in KL is spanking new. I've never been there but just did a press writeup on them last month. It's your standard swanky 5-star hotel - each room has a plasma TV (including one in the bathroom) and fantastic views according to their press pack. I should say it's a top-notched hotel.

The location is fantastic if you're planning to take the train - the hotel is right above the train station.

Taking the train from SG to KL is quite convenient - takes a bit longer than the express busses (which are also more comfy and has better value for money) - but you can take the overnight train and save $ and time.

There's no malaria problem in KL, especially not in a 5-star luxury hotel and the city area.

I always stay at the Shangri La in KL and that suits me fine.

Don't be put off by the negative comments on KL. Its a great city for a 2-3 day break, with plenty to keep you occupied for that time.

There is an excellent choice of 1st rate restaurants, shopping (local and designer) and top notch hotels - all at bargain basement prices.

The night market in Chinatown is very large and superb. But many (most)of the items are fakes (some of it is of a rather good quality though). There is also a good choice of restaurants at the night-market.

One word of advice - go and have a look at the petronas towers, but don't waste your time going up. Your treated like cattle and you only go up to walkway. What a complete loss of a huge marketing potential. Imagine what a restaurant and observation deck at the top could bring in. In contrast - the Menara (the single tall tower) is certainly worth the time and the modest entry fee.

Thanks Walter, Maey and Jenner. The new Hilton sounds fantastic and the prices cant be beat. We want to experience the train from Singapore to KL. Does anyone know the train schedule on the weekends? Does anyone have an email address or a # to call or will it be ok to make when we arrive? It will be high season. Thanks for the help. Johanna
