Is it worth sprending a week in H-K?????
The availability of very cheap airfares suggests new trips. For example, I just saw a flight Milan - Hong Kong for just over 400 Euros! Question: Is it a good idea to visit HK (extension to Guangzhou) with total stay of a full week / 10 days (plus 2 days of travel) ??? Is it too much or we can spend our time & money in the “right” way? We like museums, historical sites / monuments, local life…Your opinion??? Grazie! Gianni (Milan, Italy)

Not much on historical sites or monuments, exactly. But your enjoyment would depend on the climate. Check what the weather would be like for time of year that your are visiting. I understand that it can be hot and or humid there at certain times and maybe rainy/tyhoon seasons. The fare you are looking at might be low because it is not a time that people want to go there.

Sure one can find enough things to enjoy 5-7 days in HK, but make no mistake - it's not exactly Beijing, Rome or Paris when it comes to "must see" sites.
As for Macau, it's worth a day or two just to see the World Heritage sites, but a lot of them are Baroque churches - which may be too common for a Southern European.
Going to China for a day trip is generally not worth it for Americans (though now a visa last 10 years), but it is cheaper for EU citizens.
Airfares are cheaper as there are more and more options from Gulf State airlines, and lower crude prices mean the airlines can afford to lower fares to grab (or simply to maintain) market share.

Have fun. There's definitely enough to do in 5-7 days in HK. Guangzhou was my least favorite place in China, so I hope you'll take the forum's advice and stay in HK to explore. In addition to Macau, people also like taking a day trip to New Territories (which I didn't go to, having visited during a monsoon), but you might want to check them out.

What i found so great about Hong Kong on my (so far) only trip there a year ago, is that you can take a ferry to numerous small islands and feel you are in another world. And the public busses were great for getting around to both well known, and less so, "suburbs.' There is the city excitement too, of course, but these little islands with their villages are the icing on the HK cake!! One of my "dream" is to return, stay on HK Island (instead of TST, like last time) at a hotel near the Ferry Terminal and get a different local ferry every day!! So yes...a full week there , or even bit longer, sounds like a perfect amount. Do it!! Have a great trip!!

Again GRAZIE! I still have 2 (two!) days left to take the final decision ... and buy the flight tickets for us(me and my Wife). The "last choice" is between 10 days in H-K (and Macau...) OR 20 days in Laos. Very different, isn't it? Ciao, Gianni.
