Is $999 a real deal for Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore?
Go-today.com has a $999 deal all inclusive with R/T airfare from the west coast for these 3 cities, air transportation and transfers between each, and 3 nights hotel in each city. We're looking for someplace special for our 40th anniversary in September, were thinking Switzerland but the airfares are outrageous. We live in the Orlando area and can get to L.A. for around $250 R/T. Any advice? Joyce

off the top of my head i would say that it is an excellent rate.....is it the all asia pass using cathy pacific airlines?? the only caution i would have is that this requires you to return to hong kong before proceeding to another city...
in any case that is a terrific price in general for all three cities...at that time of year boston-bangkok is usually about $1000....going between those cities can be quite expensive, i.e. $200-300....
i would see if i could stay longer than 3 days in each place...perhaps 5, especially in bangkok and hong kong...3 might be ok for singapore...remember distances are quite far in between and you will be very tired after the initial trans-pacific flight--up to 30 hours from us east coast....
i bet you will get the fla to west coast leg cheaper from the same tour group by folding it into the over-all package....
choose your hotels carefully, especially in bangkok (try to be on the river)..there are no bad hotels really in singapore....in hk i prefer the kowloon side...we stayed at the kowloon hotel last year and it was very convenient and nice (small rooms)....

i'm back after having looked at the hotels offered and reading more....did you see that you pay $99 plus $350 from orlando??
also the hotels at $999 are not all that great...
suggestion: look at www.pacificdelighttours.com as an alternative....i have used them and they are very good...
also look at untited airlines vacation and northwest airlines vacations--i have used northwest and they are very good...their singapore hotels and bangkok hotels are quite nice and in nice areas....
don't be discouraged asia ia worth all the trouble....i am about your age, judging from the marriage--40 yrs---we are planning our 6th or 7th asia jaunt and just love it....it is very very hot in bangkok and singapore---much worse than orlando ever gets--24 hours a day...
go talk to a travel agent too and read a good guide book like fodors or some of the others...

Thanks so much for your help. I went to Japan 5 or 6 years ago and absolutely loved it, but my husband didn't get to go. I'd really love for him to see that part of the world, but wouldn't try it without some basic sort of tour, at least airport-hotel transfers! I'll post again when we decide where we're going!

i will tell you that in both hong kong and singapore you could easily do things on your own completely...its just like going to a us city with a different look..... bangkok is more difficult....we do it all on our own and like the freedom....
we like marriott hotels and they are in all of those locations....they will send a car for you to the airport and in bkk i usually pay about $36 for that and it is worth every penny....
i understand your hesitation however...

What a wonderful idea for a 40th anniversary trip!
I'd strongly suggest you consider putting the trip together yourself -- you'll save a little money, but more important you can travel a bit more comfortably than with most tour packages.
Cathay Pacific (the Hong Kong airline) is a particularly nice airline, even in economy, and they are offering an incredible fare of $599 from Los Angeles, San Fran, or New York; I'm sure that the add-on from Orlando would be reasonable. In Hong Kong, you can stay at wonderful hotels for very reasonable prices, especially now as hotels are offering deals as tourism starts to return to normal.
Incidentally, Hong Kong has got to be the easiest place in the entire world to get between the airport and downtown: the new airport express train is fast, comfortable, and incredibly simple.

We chose a hotel within walking distance of the Skyway, got a four day pass, which took us in relative air-conditioned comfort to everywhere we wanted to go, including the river port, from where you can get a ferry to the Old City. This is a good way to save money on the expensive riverside hotels, which I'm sure would be lovely. Depends on your priorities,budget and how often you want to travele.
